That finale was epic, it didn't disappoint. I love those characters, their quirks and their love for each others. I even came to like Hakaimono, which says something.

I wasn't expecting the ending to be like that, and I must admit I would have like to see how it would have developed otherwise
Spoiler aka if certain characters weren't- you know, dead
. It was a good ending though, and I must admit I almost cried finishing it.

this book is one of the times i wish we had half ratings. This is a very high 3 star, but super low 4 star-- rounded up to four.

I have some... mixed feelings about this book. I highly recommend the audiobook for this series, its absolutely amazing. So well done, if you like full casts, definitely go the audiobook route with this. I loved learning about Yumeko's past and where she came from, I won't lie I did tear up a bit at that part. Loved seeing the character interactions, and everything with
SpoilerDaisuke and Okame.
However, reason why i have mixed feelings... is the end. The end was terrible, and while I get we can't have happy endings for everything, this was just... not great? I feel like it was rushed.

Also, can we stop with the bury your gays trope?

Pretty great ending to a pretty great trilogy. There were a couple of twists that were telegraphed and one or two that were unexpected. If you've come this far, you don't need my review to convince you to keep going. So I'm just going to proceed to the spoilers to help me remember what happened.

Spoiler
I did not expect everyone but Yumeko to die.

I knew that Lord Seigutsu (or however you spell it) was Yumeko's father. But I didn't know he was a nine-tailed Kitsune. Nor did I realize there was a jewel in the dragon that made it a Kami and by getting Tatsumi to kill the dragon Lord S could become a God himself. The monster in the cave being a manifestation of Yumeko's mom's grief over losing her daughter was unexpected and great. And Lord S using the arrow at the shrine to drive the dragon mad, thereby making its death necessary, was awesome too.

I thought the constant killing of illusions in the battle between Yumeko and her father, since they can both cast them, would get tiring. But it didn't.
