Tor.com is one of my most favorite websites. They have a bunch of really cool writers and, hurrah hurrah, they also post free fiction from time to time. Legacy Lost is one of them. (check my tor shelf for more).

Why I was so interested in reading Legacy Lost is the fact that I really was considering buying Of Poseidon. Legacy Lost is the prequel of the latter, so it gave me a general view of what this book is about. I’m sure many things will change because I’ve read the summary blurb on Goodreads and it seems like your average Young Adult story. Average girl takes a trip, meets a hot fishboy, gets dragged in whatever underwater politics and so on. She’ll end up being spheshul, save the kingdom with her super-duper powers, marry the fishboy and have lots of fishbabies with him.

What would make me actually buy Of Poseidon would be:

1. The author’s writing style should blow my mind;
2. The MCs should be very interesting;
3. The villain should kick ass.

Any of the above would suffice.

Legacy Lost was mediocre. I can’t really judge the whole series based on this, but it gave me an idea of what the universe is about. Of Poseidon isn’t really hardcore fantasy after all, it’s simply Young Adult, so me expecting something flashy was a bit naïve. From what I’ve seen so far Legacy Lost is your typical teenage romance book , but with a mermaid theme. I don’t think I’ll bother with Of Poseidon, to tell you the truth. I’m really sick of all these silly Young Adult books.

Short story in the back of my copy of Of Poseidon. It was neat to see where Emma's mother's backstory but my feelings about Emma extend to her mother... Both basically annoy me.

This novella was an amazing extra. When meeting Grom in 'of Poseidon' I was intrigued and wanted to know more about him and Nalia's story and even though it's just a short novella, it's so well developed. The author gives this short story so much dept and feelings and it makes my read of 'Of Triton' (which I'm currently reading) so much more intense and emotional! So I can really recommend reading this novelle at least before you start reading 'of Triton' so you get the full reading experience <3

Loved reading this story, it was mentioned in The Stranger, but oh, it was such a heartbreaking story! Must read more now!

This was just dumb. In the books you keep hearing that Grom and Nalia loved each other so much, but in this short story they meet once as children and hate each other, and don't see each other again until they're adults and Grom likes her because she is pretty. I find it impossible to believe that in a world with only two kingdoms, the young prince and princess who are promised to each other haven't seen each other since they were children, especially if their parents are such close friends.

The scene where Nalia ends up in the mine was well written, but overall it was way too contradictory with the novels.

An interesting story, but a very negative ending. Not sure I want to read more.

If you read my review of Of Poseidon, you'll know that I loved the story.

Legacy Lost tells the story of Grom and Nalia's relationship. Their love story was mentioned in Of Poseidon but in this short story, we learn what happened to them through Grom's point of view.

I really liked it. Like Of Poseidon, I think it's a cute story and I love young Grom and Nalia as much as I love Galen and Emma. It has a sad ending though, but the story doesn't end there.

I seriously can't wait for the next book in this series. Of Triton is expected to be published on 2013. IT'S TOO LONG. I CAN'T WAIT!

This was a really good read to have before Of Triton. I feel like I understand Grom's character more and that I'll appreciate that going into book two.
A worth while short for sure!
