This book is really special to me. My parents used to read it to my brother and me when we were kids. Now that I have a munchkin of my own I read it to him. He's starting to read; yesterday he read this to me for the first time and it was amazing. I truly recommend!

My 3 year old loves the repetition in this one.

Simple, but not too simple. The storyline delivers thrills with the help of small details in the illustrations, keeping the text at a beginner’s level. Perfect for Halloween chills for young children. No ghosts or gouls, and (spoiler alert) everyone makes it to the safety of home.

As big a hit with kids now as it was 30 years ago!

This book has once again found its way into our regular rotation. One of my favorites when I was a kid. I just wish I knew what happened to the cassette tape that came with it...

September 2016 - a new favorite! Ben loves filling in "one with a..." each time, and is appropriately melodramatic when we get to "...the shivers!" The suspense and the tight text work so well together. Each moment of danger is exciting for Ben, and he adds his own commentary and sound effects. Total hit. Not explicitly a Halloween book, but perfect for this time of year. Definitely his favorite book of the fall.

October 2017 - still a favorite this fall. I started running my finger along the words as a I read, since so many repeat, and although he's nowhere near actually reading, he's really connecting the words on the page with the words I read.

This book is my whole entire childhood and I love it so much. I still describe scary things as giving me the shivers!

In this book you follow the bears as they leave home and go on an adventure to the spooky old tree, then return home properly frightened. The sentences are simple but have nice repetion. This illustrations contain good depictions of the prepositions used.
