I LOVE the Mercy Thompson World series. If I am having a lag in books I will reread these just to get out of my reading funk. However. I really didn't like this book like I do the others.
I understand that Chrisy? Christy? Left Adam so he never really stopped loving her but HOW can Mercy let him ogle her. That's how I felt. Everything was for the asshole ex wife. Cookings better, she like their PRIVATE bathroom better, she is a better pack mother. BLAH BLAH
I hated that woman. I had to stop reading several times because I was grinding my teeth.
I love mercy and the trouble she gets into. I like the new family and I am excited to see where things will go but my goodness... I almost want to rate it less...

These books are always a lot of fun and they always feel deeper than I originally gave them credit for. Not to mention that the world building keeps giving (this time we go international!).

Ahh I got a kick out of this story, although I was really stressed out by the Christy thing. It was far more anxiety inducing than any old monster battle! I realized all Mercy’s friends are guys and wished there was less female competition in my fantasy. All the gun talk started to put me on edge, too. I’m loving the development with Coyote, the vampires and the fae, that’s a lot of fun. I really appreciate bringing in folklore from other cultures besides euro ones. It amused me they’re now walking with gods but there’s still “God god.” Some of the toxic masculinity and homophobia in this book (and series, but this book hit it hard) seemed unnecessary- I appreciate making it “real world” but ugh I just wouldn’t hang out with these people. If they’re so homophobic and mysoginstic why are there no other issues like racism or xenophobia? Chosen family means not tolerating a bunch of abusive dill holes.

It's always great reading a new Mercy Thompson book...she was the first UF that I really liked so Mercy will always hold a soft spot for me. With that said, I haven't reread my Mercy books in a while and have been reading other things. It was so easy to get back into the swing of the Mercy-world. I'm also really glad to have a book with Adam in it! LoL I felt like he hadn't really been in a book since their honeymoon, which was only 2 books ago, but it felt like forever! :) My only problem with the book was Christy...Ugh! I really dislike discord in a book between main characters and Christy throws a wrench in the works of Mercy-Adam. I mean, it wasn't terrible, but it was enough there that I didn't quite enjoy the book as much as I'd have liked. With that said, other than Christy, I really liked everything else about the book. I thought the new monster was interesting and it was interesting to see Mercy's relationship in the pack better and how she's handling being the Alpha-mate.

[3 Stars] Ex-drama is obnoxious. The mythology felt a bit convoluted. Idk. It was just average.

Mercy's mate has a manipulative ex wife and when she blows back into their lives after getting involved with the wrong man, she tries her best to turn the pack against Mercy on top of the danger she drags everyone into when she doesn't tell them she suspects the man she's running from is also supernatural in some way.
As usual Mercy gets into trouble and then somehow saves the day, these are fun, fast but predictable reads which means now that I'm this far into the series I need to space them out so I don't get tired of the story lines but they are a good time when I get to the next one.
