Author thinks he's funnier than he actually is, but there's good information in here for making a career change.

I found this to be a very readable and approachable book about ways to change your career and move in a direction that is right for you. I liked the practicality and honesty in this book, I plan on rereading it again.

I would be interested to meet the person who really needs this book and to hear their story. I suppose if you’re going through an unexpected career change, you may not be self-aware or be in a mind frame to understand basic concepts like maintaining relationships and evaluating and building on your personal skill set.

The hustle section was most motivating to me, though not very memorable.

This book is full of good advice, tips, and reminders, but one I found difficult to just sit down and read straight through. I found myself piecemealing my way through as I read other things.

Much of what you'll find in this book is nothing new. But you know how you can hear something a million times and it just never clicks until someone else says basically the same thing, but uses a different analogy? That's what happened with me and this book. Nothing blew me away except how the career problems were presented; I needed that structure in order to finally get it.

I found Do Over immensely readable. Agreed that there were a lot of jokes that could have been cut. He's a funny writer, but sometimes he overdoes his joke. Still, worth a read if you're in the midst of a career upheaval... or want one.

I saw Jon speak in person and he is an engaging and witty speaker. His book is the same. It was like a conversion.

This a good book that walks you through what you need to do in order to change careers whether voluntary or involuntary. However, it drags in some places and it doesn't have the abundance of humor his books normally have in them.

Jon Acuff offers sound career advice on how to map out your career trajectory, stressing the importance that it's not done so in a vacuum. There are people in your life, both personal and professional, who can help you along the way. He's also laugh out loud funny at times to make his point about how successful (or not successful) you can be navigating your career.
