Čia sudėliojami visi taškai ant i ir skaitytojui tampa aiški tolimesnė įvykių eiga.

This is a great book if you have the strength to hold it up. It is over 600 pages and a hardback.

While this book was well written, I did not find the plot to be intriguing enough to really like the book. The reminiscing/back story for the central characters helped fill out the story, but there was a lot of repetitive information that I felt did not need to be repeated as often as it was.

Many people compare this book to Margaret Mitchell's Gone With The Wind, and I'll have to agree that in some instances the plot is a little similar.

Roses is the story of Mary Toliver, the heiress to a large cotton plantation handed down over three generations. As a child Mary feels a strong connection to the land, a dedicated love that initially appears harmless but will later become a hindrance in her own personal affairs.

A young Mary eventually falls head over heels in love with timber magnate Percy Warwick, but when Percy refuses to allow Mary to keep her cotton plantation and urges her to sell, they have a falling out which leaves behind a trail of questions, 'Oh, what could have been?'

Jumping to present day, Mary Toliver is an old, dying woman. The question on everybody's lips, who will inherit the cotton plantation when Mary is gone?

This was a rather long read, a bit slow to get going but hard to put down once the story really got rolling. It's the classic romance; your picture-perfect couple that just can't seem to iron out their differences adding further frustrations along the way.

All in all, a great book if you're seeking a period-style romance set in East Texas, in the same vein as Gone With The Wind.

Aanrader!!

This book has got it all; love, heartache, friendship, family, drama.... It is well written and it is so hard to put down the book. I like that it is a family saga and that the story is told through the eyes of different characters in the book. A book hardly makes me cry, only if it is really really good I'll cry. This book made me cry several times. A book that makes me cry deserves 5 stars! Only the ending is a bit weak if you ask me. But in the end I just loved this book!

I really enjoyed this book. I was daunted at first by the size of the book (over 600 pages hardback). But it was a quick read. I really enjoyed the characters and I found the family history fascinating.

ČITATELJSKI IZAZOV - NASLOVI PREMA SLOVIMA MOGA IMENA (11 - R)
Bookoplathon - Big book > 500

Povijesna obiteljska saga s ljubavnim elementima.
