After reading a story about a cyberattack from China, I remembered reading this great book last year.

The Ascendant is a different take on a political thriller - instead of missiles and bullets, the battles are fought with internet worms and stock market disruptions. I was interested to see how the author played up a grass-roots revolution in China, with US hackers disseminating information.

Garrett Reilly, the hero of the story, however, failed to appeal to me. He is way too enamored with the f-word, and too immature for my tastes. None of the other characters inspired my allegiance, either.

This book overall was just okay. 3 stars.

I won this book from goodreads.

Action, history, love story, twist and turns, this book has it all! I would not usually choose a book in this genre to read, but this was a great book. It starts off with the life of a normal american stock market analyst who can see patterns. He unravels some patterns relating to cyber attacks from China, and the US military catches wind.

I received this book for free through Goodreads First Reads.

Side note: Let me start by saying that the day before I read this I had an interview in the early morning. That being said, I barely slept reading this book and I went to my interview on no sleep. That can say a lot about the book.

It's definitely a book I usually don't gravitate to, but I still entered the giveaway because the summary of the book caught my attention. Good thing it did. Such a great book. The author's writing was amazing and I obviously expected such as much from a writer that writes movies and shows. I couldn't stop texting my husband telling him how good it was while reading it. Drew Chapman makes it easy to follow even if you're unfamiliar with the content. I also learned a few things here and there.

I definitely recommend this book to anybody even thinking about buying it. To anybody that's in the mood to shake things up and try something out of their comfort zone.

Felt like a mashup of Ender’s Game, Pattern Recognition, and Ready Player One.

First off, I'd like to say this isn't a book that I'd typically gravitate to, but I entered the recent giveaway for it and wow..I honestly loved it. Maybe I should start reading out of my comfort zone more often!

I won this as an advance reader's copy and I fell in love with Chapman's style because it transforms when he's talking about different characters. It's really great what he did - you can see the personality of each character reflect in his writing. I fell in LOVE with Garrett, the main character.

This book really did not disappoint, when I saw that it was written by a man who had heavy duty in writing Iron Man for Fox I had high expectations. Those expectations were surpassed.

Great thriller. All I did for days was sit and read and make food when I had to. If you enjoy political thrillers and an out-of-the-box look on diplomacy and international finances, you'll really enjoy this book. I'm not even into that stuff and I loved it.

Cheers and happy reading when this comes out in January.
