Loved Sybella's story! Her character had been shrouded in mystery in Grave Mercy and it was very relieving to finally get some questions answered. I liked that the book was based more on Sybella's personal demons and grievances and was not just her take on her assignment as was the case in Grave Mercy. Her story was almost hopelessly tragic and it gave me several more reasons to despise D'Albert, the pedophile. Loved Beast's character and the awesome ending.
Rating:- 3.5/5 stars!

Second in a series...and female assassin? Cool.
I was reluctant to read this one because I did not like the hints at her past.
The book proved to be a page turner and fun to read...not the best book I've ever read and the flow is awkward sometimes, but the story is good.

A girl infiltrates her family to try and save the Bretons..and her younger sisters. One the way to rescuing a knight..she falls in love.

Read if you like kick ass females, historical fiction....and stories with knights.

You know, I didn't love Sybella's story as much as I liked Ismae's. I think it had a slight undertone of Beauty and the Beast (which I love) but it was dark and pretty heavy. I did like that it didn't sugar coat things and made you and the character come to terms with the heaviness together.

So, after reading book 1 I jumped instantly into book 2.

This series is on fire! How I missed out on it I don't know, but I am so glad to have gotten hardcover copies with the gorgeous ladies on the front. And, I absolutely love this book more than Book 1.

The good thing about this series is the tale overlaps with the tale from the first one, though partially through the eyes of Sybella. She appears from time to time in the background of Ismae's story (book 1). But what was she doing? Here is where you get that answer.

Sybella is a tough cookie. She is a flame that just wants to set the world asunder and burn within her gaze. I absolutely loved how she tackled situations and did not take shit from any one. On top of that, I absolutely loved her moments of uncertainty and hesitation. ... This leads into her love with a certain male that we saw in Book 1.

I loved this book so much that I was thankful to own Book 3. I decided to hold off on diving into that, to savor the finale. (Though I am aware her story continues on in a duology - which I have also purchased, I felt the major story must be treated with care and pause.)

If you love fantasy, if you love history, and if you love ladies that are strong with men who are fucking amazing. ... this is your series.

“Hate cannot be fought with hate. Evil cannot be conquered by darkness. Only love has the power to conquer them both.”

Sybella managed to escape her life and enter the convent of St. Mortain. She took up her role there willingly, as she is fuelled by the killing she does to serve St. Mortain. But, her convent returns her to the life she managed to escape from. Her father's brutality and anger scares her and she hates living within the same walls as him. However, she manages to find a new ally who helps her escape that life.

Did you love [b:Grave Mercy|9565548|Grave Mercy (His Fair Assassin, #1)|Robin LaFevers|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1320269319s/9565548.jpg|14452295]? Then you will definitely love this. I preferred Dark Triumph, and I think it is because I loved Sybella more. There was also less politics in Dark Triumph as there was in the first book, yet it was still as engrossing as the first. There was more focus on the character, and her development. To me, Sybella was a more interesting character than Ismae, and I much preferred reading about her. I did enjoy the little appearances of Ismae and Duval, but I really did love Sybella. She was so strong and brave, despite being scared out of her mind sometimes. She had that vulnerability that I really admire, but she dealt with it really well. She was so full of anger and hatred, but eventually learned to love. She was so passionate and loyal to a fault, and she really did care about the others at the convent, and she was willing to go back to protect them.

Dark triumph was such a thrilling and roller coaster of a book that I just couldn't stop turning the pages. At nearly 500 pages, I thought it was going to drag, but it went by so fast, and never once lost my attention.

The romance! I loved it. Beast is a great character and he really captured my heart. He is so dangerous in battle, and so strong and rough, but when he was with Sybella, he was so gentle with her, and I really liked that. I liked how it was such a slow development. It really warmed my heart how much they cared for each other. He didn't treat her like she was some fragile toy and he fought side by side with her like an equal and I really loved that.

There was some great character development. Sybella finally understanding herself and learning more about what she does. Accepting that the convent are misguided and it was all just done so fantastically. Robin LaFevers really is a great writer, and I will picking the next book up when it is out.

Overall, a brilliant read, with a interesting heroine and a fantastic plot.

Even though it's been a long time since I read the first book of this series, it wasn't really hard for me to jump again into this world, with its semi-magic religion and all the historical details.
And I didn't miss Ismae, something I feared when I read it was about another character, because Sybella is so wild and strong that gets soon under your skin and doesn't let you go.
Fans of historical, fans of light paranormal and of romance might find this story satisfying. It's young adult but it's really well written and the plots are a bit more complex because it works against historical background. This story though, as Robin says in her comment at the end, is a lot more personal than Ismae's story that put the political machinations in the forefront of the plot.
This is a story about family, about secrets and about love. And about forgiveness.

It happened again. The book ends but there is no real ending. Given that we have a fresh MC in each installment it leaves me feeling really unsatisfied that we don't get more of a resolution with the characters. I don't want snippets of them in the next book.
Why weren't these books written with multiple perspectives per book?
And I don't really like the couple. I just don't feel anything. Separately they're fine but together there's nothing. Maybe I don't find them interetsing because they don't banter. They argue but they don't banter. The vibes are different.
I don't think I'll finish the series. I don't see what book three could give me besides an end to the plot.
