DNF at around 75% ! I feel the homophobic vibes and these two people just do not belong together there is not a single moment they are happy except for when they are fucking. There is absolutely no trust or happiness nothing.

YES! This is gold!

In reality, both characters are flawed and they did/acted in ways I’d never agree in real life but my thoughts about those are shadowed by the love and friendship between Eliza and Nathan.

I felt more for Nathan, I cared about Eliza but for me, majority of the book is for Nathan. He’s one of the fictional characters that I will forever carry in my heart. He definitely have controlling and temper issues, and I wouldn’t approve of being in a relationship with someone like that but he was written in a way that he’s raw and beautiful. I agree with Eliza whenever he comments about that—how Nathan is carved out of a beautiful soul.

My first TL Swan book was The Italian and though I liked it, there were a lot of things that made me uncomfortable with that and I didn’t like the characters as much as I did here. This book got recommended to me, and when she was talking about the book, I was so hooked that I grabbed a copy immediately.

I highly recommend this, it’s lighter in comparison to The Italian, and the drama in this book is just right — it’s not overdone, but it will hit you hard.

One of my pet peeves is non-American authors who write American characters and have them travel in kilometers, weight things in kilos, and "clean" their teeth. Just write characters that live in your home country. There was nothing about the setting that would have changed the story.

These two are kind of toxic with each other. It is always weird for me to be hoping characters don't end up together because the whole reason I read romance books is for the HEA. This book was also Way too long. Then was not a reason for this to be 600 pages.

Audiobook Read (Audible) (April 2024)
Narrators: Connor Crais, Elena Wolfe

Ok... Im  a sucker sometimes... I thought maybe since my favorite narrator was the hero it would help me enjoy this book more... Narrator was amazing, book was still meh for me... But Again the spicy scenes were H.O.T.
But I honestly strongly dislike these characters. So immature.

1. Love T.L. Swans writing
2. Love this storyline. It's quite unique and nothing I've read before. The author did a terrific job of emulating the complex and messy side of a relationship.
3. I knocked off a star because I did not like Eliza as a character. Good golly, the way she continuously blamed everyone else but herself when things went awry made my blood boil.
4. Also, for being friends and basically inseparable for 10 years, they know quite little about each other when it comes to who they are as people.

I hated the male protagonist for most of the story, but I eventually warmed up to the love story near the end. One pet peeve, however: the use of Britishisms in conversation amongst Americans in San Francisco. For example: there were words often stated, like "nearly" instead of almost, "lift" instead of elevator, "holiday" instead of vacation, "head job" instead of blow job, and "kilometers" instead of miles - which are words that aren't used in common American vernacular. And as an American-english speaker, those words made the dialog feel odd and unnatural (to me), as most Americans don't use them in conversation. Wish the author had paid better attention to that or had made the setting in England, instead. Nonetheless, the story still appealed to me, over all, and I'm looking forward to reading other titles by this author soon.

2.5. Immature, childish communication skills, cheating but for some reason I didn’t hate this book.

Nathan and Eliza - this book is completely different than anything that I have ever read from Ms. Swan. Nathan has always considered himself gay and Eliza is his long term best friend. At some point these two fall in love with each other and they can not get enough of each other. Some miscommunication almost tears these two apart and poor Nathan is left heartbroken and alone. I honestly was heartbroken for him, but the ending was absolute perfection. I loved this book! I wish there was another one!

At the point of reviewing this book, I have read it over two months ago. I just got around to reviewing it! So I might have forgotten a lot of things about this book.
Anyways it follows Nathan who has only ever been with a guy and Brooke his best friend. Nathan falls in love with her and he doesn't know how to tell her because he believes that he liked her is just a phase. I remember enjoying their story as I read along but thinking back, they both are really forgettable.
