There are no words to describe the feelings I had while reading this book. I initially was grieving with Cam, with all the mothers. Then the assignments began. I was immediately sucked into the cult-like nuances of these plotted murders, on the edge of my seat every time Cam had to do a task. When she broke a rule, I felt like screaming at her. I knew what they were doing was morally wrong, but I couldn’t help feeling sucked into their bizarre brand of justice. My heart ached for all these mothers that had lost their children, and I couldn’t help but feel like the collective had brainwashed me too through their words.

As Cam dug up the truth and started to hunt for 0001, I began to fear for my own life too. This was all fast-paced and left me gripping the edge of my seat. I couldn’t put it down. I was hooked. Anytime I stopped reading to do something, I felt like I was waking up from a wild dream. This book is not my usual genre, but I am happy that I gave it a chance.

Alison Gaylin’s The Collective was every bit as good as I expected it to be, and then some. I’ve been dying to read this since its release, and it was well worth the wait. I loved the characters, and I liked the slow progression of the plot. Don’t confuse that with this book being slow though, because it was anything but. I was captivated from cover to cover and I think this author absolutely nailed the pacing. I liked the way information was revealed, and even though I saw the twist coming, I loved it. It felt Ike a natural progression of events, but it’s definitely a twist I can see other people being surprised by. If you’re a fan of dark psychological thrillers, I would definitely check this one out.

I didn’t really know what to expect going into it, but my heart was racing at the end of the book. I can’t say I agreed with the ending but you could kind of see it coming in a way. Lots of twists and turns!

Wow! This book was haunting. The elusive "collective" was a living breathing group that you feel throughout this book. Their pain, their stories, the twisting and turning road of this story grips you till the crash.

The main character dying by being thrown down the stairs blew my mind!!! The woman who she thought was her friend, was the leader. "Open your eyes," is so haunting as she was always talking to the leader.

I was torn about the end, but it made sense since the women could be anywhere. Anyone.

This book was highly disturbing, which I guess is good for a thriller. Like after reading it I really wanted to know if the author is ok. The plot was unique and although I had a hunch about one of the twists at the end, I was genuinely surprised by most of the end.
