If you have religious trauma relating in any way to Christianity, then this is not the book for you. The Christian overtures start out mild but become increasingly prominent throughout the rest of the book. The summary says the book is “an apocalyptic drama of God and evil, madness, and revelation”. That’s certainly the understatement of the century. This book could be sold in a Christian bookstore. Fair warning!

I enjoyed this book. It did a good job of keeping your interest. I found the end lagged a bit but over all a great read.

I know this is an old book of Stephen King. But my gosh it was so good. Never expected the end to end the way it did. It's a thriller with good & bad twists to it.

Atmospheric and brutal. I enjoyed seeing the shuffled cast of The Regulators face down Tak in a new scenario. I love a good desert story, and this one embraces the dry heat.

It wasn’t bad. It wasn’t amazing. But it was entertaining enough and didn’t drag. It surprisingly didn’t have that excessive amount of King-esque character development where you get 400 pages of no action and 1-200 pages at the end of everything happening at once. It had a nice flow.

I usually don’t love a ton of religious themes, and while I thought there was a little much of it at times (strictly personal preference), it wasn’t too overwhelming.

Lots of gore and action.

Oh man, coming off Dreamcatcher, this book was EXACTLY what I needed. This book has great suspense and similar plot points (boy with "psychic" powers, otherworldly evil force), but is much more streamlined. The ending is equally better and much more coherent. I loved the opening scenes and the characters felt relatable and real.

Overall, one of the better King books. Definitely give this one a go!

I got this book from a thrift store when I was a teenager looking to move on from RL Stein. I think this started a weird time in my life where I would read anything by Stephen King. As an adult I cannot read horror books anymore but I would reread this book. I loved all the characters and the whole plot line. I was probably way to young to have read this but it also made Interview with a Vampire my next read because I had to find out about the Anne Rice comment LOL.

Not my favorite King novel.
