After finishing the second book in Joe R. Lansdale’s “Hap & Leonard” series I realise that the humour is amazing & the writing is is better. There’s a style that Lansdale has that makes these two east Texas characters just work in this series. I watched the TV series, or the first season at least & it wasn’t as fun as these books are.

I will encourage anyone that enjoys a good mystery with a touch of redneck humour this series is worth your time.

I love Hap & Leonard so much I don't care much about the plot. The plot was great, but I'd read these novels even if was just the two of them sitting on the porch, nurturing their bromance.

I just love Hap Collins and this book was "out of the box" good as well. Must be a fan of the noir mysteries to enjoy it but if you like the genre Lansdale is on the list of the best in genre.

If you are very politically correct just don't even plan on reading this series. Joe Lansdale manages to offend pretty much every sensibility you will have. He doesn't really care either.

Hap's working in the rose fields when his pal Leonard comes to get him. Hap doesn't mind because he hates the job anyways. So he cusses his boss and goes off with Leonard. Leonard's uncle has died and he wants Hap to go to the funeral with him.

They find out that his uncle has left Leonard his house and a chunk of money. Hap is now jobless so Leonard offers to keep him in toilet paper and hamburgers if he will help him clean up the house so he can sell it.

The crack house next door comes to our heroes attention. Attitude adjustments happen.
Then they find a young child's body in the uncle's house. They begin searching for answers to clear Leonard's uncle's name. The fun is just beginning for the dynamic duo. Several young kids from the neighborhood have gone missing.

I've learned quite a bit from these books.
Like when Leonard says "Stand back, motherfuckers"
It's probably a good idea to stand back.

And from Hap: Another bad thing about a holding cell is you don't exactly meet a great crowd of people. A lot of them are criminals.

Not that our boys would know anything about that.

Wow. What a ride. Not for the faint of heart. Or politically correct. Some seriously dark subject matter is dealt with in a book that still managed to make me chuckle--but never about the horrors themselves. If not for the comic relief banter between Leonard and Hap, I don't think I would have been able to read this. Not that it's not compelling. Entirely the opposite. But this book contains some brutally fucked up situations.

Everything I want in a book. Relatable characters, fantastic dialogue, laugh-out-loud humor, great action and a story with twists and turns. Joe Lansdale can spin one heck of a tale. Highly recommend.

Leonard’s uncle as passed on and left his house and belongings to Leonard. The house happen to be located next to a crack house and the two friends make some enemies right out of the gates. Then they find the kiddie porn and something else a bit more disturbing in Leonard’s new house. The boys have some investigating to do in order to clear Uncle Chester’s name. Yes, the guy with child pornography in his house was named Chester. In case you weren’t aware, Leonard is a colored openly gay man, and Hap is a while redneck and they are the best of friends.
This was such a fun book, I laughed loudly several times. Mucho Mojo is a perfect action, comedy, social justice book that shows what great friends will do for each other.
