adventurous dark emotional mysterious sad fast-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Strong character development? It's complicated
  • Loveable characters? It's complicated
  • Diverse cast of characters? Yes
  • Flaws of characters a main focus? It's complicated

catching fire was my favorite of the three in middle school and definitely stands as my favorite now. i don’t even know how to describe it other than that it was incredible. there were so many little details in the plot that really play into the quarter quell/revolution that i had forgotten about and loved. peeta’s character once again blew me away and so did finnick’s— but honestly i think all characters were even more developed in this one. this book put me in even more emotional turmoil than the last one but it’s a masterpiece!!!!! (am i biased? maybe? but idc)

The ending is such a cliffhanger but it was the best among the bestest!

I think there is no better direction to take this story than where Collins chose to. A wonderful critique on Western capitalism that my 13 year old brain ingested and my 24 year old brain understood.

Also the Seneca Crane dummy was perhaps the cuntiest serve in modern literature.
