(Disclaimer: I received this book from the publisher. This has not impacted my review which is unbiased and honest.)

The Hunting Moon is a sequel that took a while to get started - think around halfway through - but it's one that forces characters to learn that revenge and vengeance has a place. That forgiveness will not give back what is lost. It's a book that begins by sweeping us back into what happened in the past. Into the community group, into this insular community. The Hunting Moon examines Winnie who deals with misrepresentation. About what happened in her past to her family, but also about the trials.

I didn't love this as much as the first one. I didn't love Winnie, and the twists weren't really twists. I know the girl needs glasses but cmon girl

Such an engaging book! I think I loved this one even more than the first. I couldn’t put it down! It’s really great to see Winnie grow and learn so much throughout the course of the book. It had a clear and resolved plot for the second book with just enough mystery that I’m desperate to read the next book while still feeling very satisfied by the ending of this one. Also so many good scenes!

I love this series. The worldbuilding, the monsters, the plot twists, I love it all. My claim that this is Teen Wolf and Divergent mixed together still stands, especially with the plot development we get in this book. Winnie and Jay are such fun characters to read about and Winnie's group of friends are so supportive and sweet.
The plot thickens with the Dianas and I am so intrigued to learn more about where Winnie's dad has been all this time and Erica's involvement in whatever I assume her older sister did. I'm also looking forward to seeing the romance between Winnie and Jay continue because while moments are somewhat cringey because of the awkward teen flirtation, there are also a lot of adorable moments. Susan Dennard kept me engaged from page one to the very end, I read this within a day and now I really need the next book...

While I enjoyed the story continuation in this book, I was disappointed that Winnie was still a bit juvenile. The dialog was less cringy than the first book, however I got a headache from all the times my eyes rolled at the over use of three word repeats. And I also don’t understand the over usage of periods behind every word. I honestly think this story could have wrapped up in a duology instead of three books. I really liked the interaction with the nightmares and really want more lore on the actual spirit that creates these nightmares. I understand this is a ya novel but there is so much potential with the mysteries of the forest. I will be interested to see how the author wraps this up in the next book.

This second in the series was full of Winnie’s ruminations and painfully slow and methodical research into her dad’s clues.  The events from the previous book were not well summarized, and I had a hard time remembering everything that occurred.   The pacing really dragged down this book.  I did enjoy the ending, however, so I plan to continue the series.
