I picked up this book wanting just a nice, fluffy read. And then I totally fell in love with it. It was one of those books where I'd get so sucked in that when something distracted me away from it, there was tha brief moment of disorientation as I had to adjust to finding myself in the real world. I really enjoyed it.

I don't think I've reread this since before A Tangle of Gold came out, which is truly a tragedy. This was so nostalgic and I saw all the little details leading towards things in the rest of the series, which is always fun!

There were parts that had me dying of laughter, and I'm sure I must have appeared absolutely insane laughing to myself doing basic labor in a warehouse, but it's fine!! I will say this is better read in print than through audio, in my opinion, but there were several narrators and I did appreciate that.

Finally read this thanks to friend recs, and now can't believe I've never read anything by the author before! Adored this, and it kept me up at night, the best recommendation I know :)

I’m really only interested in comfort reads at present and this was that and more, and more. I am a Jaclyn Moriarty stan.

Someone said this book is slow to get to the plot. And wow, is it ever. The action doesn't start till the last tenth of the book. Then a lot of what happens makes sense, sort of.

This book had really interesting world-building, but I didn't care all that much about the characters. And, as I said, the plotting was glacial.

Very fun book! The writer has a very quirky style which took me a while to get used to, but once I did I really enjoyed it. This is an interesting tale, realistic on the one hand, yet full of fun fantasy elements. It was a bit long - some of the plot could have been condensed. For about half of the book it was fairly slow. However, Madeleine and her friends are great characters that I didn't mind spending some extra time with. The book wraps up pretty well - it could almost be a stand-alone. I am looking forward to reading the sequel!

Okay, this book is beautiful. The language is lovely and the world is interesting ... but there are a million characters, who don't seem to be connected. Plus, here we have an issue of ZERO PLOT.

I just can't keep reading. There is nothing driving me forward. I even got to the point of the little papers, but I still don't care.

If you are looking for a winter read that is beautiful, beautiful descriptions and writing, then this is your book. But if you are concerned about plot and knowing what is going on then this one to skip.

The cover got me with this one. It was so colourful and quirky, plus I found the title a little strange, so I just had to pick it up and see what it was about. Reading the humorous introduction in store, I snatched it up and put it next in line on my to-read list. Unfortunately, once I got into it, I didn’t find it as gripping. I think I’d expected some kind of note-leaving romance like in The Lake House, but instead found chapters upon chapters of friendship drama. It was really a struggle to get through the first half of the book, so it surprised me when things suddenly turned around midway and I became addicted this story. It’s left me polarised on how I view the book. Finishing it, I felt like it was excellent, but then I have to remember the weeks I spent chugging along through the first half, wishing it would end.
