DNF @ 25%

Occasionally I'll rate my DNFs, but I'm going to refrain this time. It's not that this is a "bad" book, exactly; it's just not a book for me. As other reviewers have said, I found this hard to relate to and didn't really feel that it offered anything in the way of advice or tips for "slowing down".

More of a review to come.

Just what I needed to read during a hectic season of life. Refreshing and peaceful. It is not a how to book but a what I lived book. And, I think I learned a lot from reading her missteps and successes. Definitely going to approach life with a new perspective after reading this.

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

Here's the thing: I love Shauna Niequist. I love her heart, her faith, and the way she centers her life around family, friendship, and food. But sometimes her writing style drives me a little bit bonkers. I wish that it was more organized, and easier to follow. Instead, it reads like a stream-of-consciousness or like one long blog post. I love where her head is at, but I feel like sometimes I miss her point because I'm just trying to follow her train of thought.

I will continue to read her books, so long as she continues to write them, but this only gets three stars from me simply because of the above.

This book has so many uplifting and thoughtful moments that it is definitely worth reading, but somewhere around part 6, it just seems to be filler. Like the author had a work count they had to complete in order to publish the book. It gets repetitive and spirals off topic and then comes back. Worth the read, but it does get a little ehhhhh at the end.

Excellent reminder to be in the moment

This book was a good reminder for me to refocus on what’s important and remember who I am and enjoy that aspect of life. Sometimes it’s easy to get caught up in the living of life that we actually forget to live and enjoy that same life for what it is, definitely helped me put some things I struggle with into perspective.

There are significant gems of self-reflection and insight within this book. With that said, it also is rooted in Christianity and her religiosity. For me, at times, that was a bit too much. But taking that into consideration, I found a lot of takeaways in her life stories.
