This book has an interesting premise, but barely works within this premise. It outlines the rules, but becomes a story more about magic feuds and inherited subtle superpowers than "the eighth day". The prose is simple, and works.
In the end, it just becomes a "stop the ritual", where the protagonist sort of just goes with the flow, and every other character is engaged in more interesting stories.

Excellent youth fantasy fiction. The premise is very unique. Highly recommended.

genre: sci-fi/fantasy

summary: Jax experiences eighth day between Wednesday & Thursday. Soon he finds others who also share this day. All of them are decedents from ancient bloodlines dating back to the age of Merlin and King Arthur.

notes:

for kids who like: Percy Jackson, Tesla's Attack

age group: age 10+

my review: face paced. an easy sell to boys who like adventure books. i think the plot was a little too complicated (way more than it needed to be) which kind of took away from the story but otherwise i think is a pretty solid hit for kids who like this genre.

it would definitely make a good kid's movie

3.5 stars. I enjoyed it, but there was a lack of explanation that bugged me while I was reading. My guess is that Salerni wanted the audience to find out what's going on as Jax does. I like knowing more than the characters, so I was just as frustrated as Jax is in the book. Great technique for empathizing with his character, but not as much with the others. It won't stop me from continuing with the series, though.

I read this book so much that the cover fell off. Granted I was like 11 maybe but I digress, I adore this book.

I started reading this because my 10 year old son just started it and it sounded interesting. Overall, I really enjoyed it. Loved the concept of the 8th day (even if the name 'Grunsday' was ridiculous), however near the end, things started to take a strange turn. I thought the ending was a bit over-the-top, and because of this, I won't be continuing on with the series. My son is enjoying it though, and plans to continue on with Book 2, so that's good!

Amazing book! I loved all the characters and connection between all of them. I loved all the humour in the novel and it really did make me smile.

The storyline was very unique and unlike anything I've ever read before.
I thought the two different points of views in the book flowed quite nicely.

Over all a very enjoyable book and finally a character with the same name as me! No book I've ever read has a character with the same name as me and spelled the same! And shes such a badass character as well. So props for that!

I like these characters as well as the plot, which goes at a fast clip but 'makes sense' along the way.
