This was an ejoyable read. Nothing too profound or susceptible of causing you some serious emotion, yet good enough to spend some hours relaxing.
Louisa and Anthony weren't outstanding leads, but there were some funny moments that made me giggle.
I don't know how Louisa could be such a clever, observant woman some times, yet the rest of the time she was so naive that she almost came across as childlike.
The part about them trying to prove Hastings's shadowy activities was somewhat interesting.
All in all, read The River Knows if you're looking for something light and easy to read.

Got a decent way through and was enjoying the characters a lot individually before DNF because the guy was too gropey for my taste, it just felt weird and took me out of it.

A murder mystery that keeps me smiling all along.
I love these cozy historical suspense romances that Ms. AQ set in the late Victorian reign. While the heroes and heroines didn't have the appeal of a title, they didn't have to go to boring ballrooms scenes every night, and didn't have to deal with thinly veiled insults from members of the "ton". They also engaged in a wide variety of "trades" and possessed a lot more love for thrilling adventures, which lead to more actions, more interesting characters outside of the so called High Society, and more murders.
Both Louisa and Anthony are typical AQ's main leads. Louisa found herself destitute some years back, and now had a secret past so big it forbid her to dream of happiness. Anthony was another dangerous man with enigmatic eyes, black hair, predator grace, an ability to pick locks, and a fixation on figuring out the unconventional female he just met. Yes, a very typical AQ's historical couple that I'm happy to read any time, any day.
Ms. AQ again excelled at providing a most vibrant group of supporting network side characters. Anthony's family didn't appear often enough but when they did, I squealed with happiness. Louisa's network of informants also didn't get much mention, but each and everyone of them was equally extraordinary and daring for a female of their era.
The mystery as it was in this book is not over complicated, but the pacing is thrilling enough to keep you reading.
Overall, another of my go to cozy mystery romance. Can't get it wrong with Amanda Quick.

A journalist with a secret past and a gentleman teamed up to investigate a shady dude. She's the classic AQ heroine - quirky, resourceful with a quick wit, while he's the smart, broody alpha whom she often drives to exasperation. Theirs is a fun romance, with mad escapades, solid chemistry, really entertaining and witty banter (her thinking he's a professional thief cracked me up), and some good bouts of passion. And he's very supportive and protective when she revealed her past. The mystery is engaging and the supporting cast is fun. AQ's books are my comfort reads, and I definitely enjoyed this one.

I thoroughly enjoyed this!!
I loved the quick banter and easy partnership that Anthony & Louisa had from the start. They had really great chemistry but there was a lack of…relationship development between them. I wish there had been more time spent getting to know each other— in some aspects I feel like I didn’t get to know Anthony well.
The pace was super quick and the mystery interesting enough, I found myself unable to stop reading when I picked this up. ☺️

A fairly typical Amanda Quick/Jayne Ann Krentz plot, but still very enjoyable. Quick/Krentz doesn't develop the romances in her books quite as much as I'd prefer, but she writes good characters and decent mysteries. The mystery in this book was well done and kept me guessing. Picking up a book by Krentz under any pen name is guaranteed to be an enjoyable read for me. (Mar.'11)

I enjoyed this book even as a re-read. There were some great parts that made me laugh at times. The story follows Joanna who is forced to change her name to Louisa and live as a journalist after killing a Lord in self-defence. Louisa encounters Anthony when she is investigating the truth about someone for an article. They join forces to work out the truth and find themselves in trouble. I enjoyed reading their story as they fell in love and investigated. Definitely a book I would read again and recommend. Xxx
