Listen, I don't condone her behaviors (eating people) but I can say I respect the hustle (eating and sleeping her way across Italy).

Took me foreverrrr to finish bcause it really is the most gruesome and detailed book I’ve ever read. Really picked up after the first 90 pages which in a book so short made me question if I should finish it at all. Ended up enjoying it more as I pushed through- the part about female friendships and Emma was my fav part of it.

Not glorifying cannibalism but I love her and there was a lot to take away from the book besides the cannibalistic parts which were obviously interesting, it was also funny in some sort of dark way during times

The author really thought she ate with this one. I've always found that if a character has to repeatedly shout about what traits they have then the author is simply incapable of showing it. Summer's constantly feels the need to reiterate that her main character is a psychopath and knows it. She makes this Dorothy's entire personality and even then she has to announce it.

She also feels the need to play at lesbianism which feels forced and out of place in the otherwise man obsessed narrative. It really feels like queerbaiting so this book can go in a LGBT list and be 'trendy.'

The premise however, is impeccable. A food writer that kills and eats the men she sleeps with. Alas it falls short. It wants to be something more than it is. The descriptions of food lack anything that makes you desire it which, as it is from the perspective of a food writer, is rather jarring. If you're happy to ignore writing quality in favour of a good premise I would recommend this book. If you would rather luxuriate on the food and the relationships and have the writing make you both salivate and recoil in equal parts just read "Butter."

3.5 stars - This was an interesting story without question, and the author’s use of language was quite beautiful which was especially poignant given the subject matter. But the book began to drag around the 3/4 mark, and the addition of Alex felt superfluous. All told it was a good story and time well spent.

Def one of those books that is not gonna be for everyone. It is satire but it is from the perspective of a pretentious serial killer. And it does take way too long to get to the killing cause of all the tangents

But once it gets to the cannibalism it starts to hit. The foodie talk used to talk about eating people was hilarious.

(OH and there's a super unnecessary SA scene that does nothing for the plot. )
