Update, second read: still just as emotional wrecked as I was the first time. Beautiful and achingly thought-provoking. This book will be scored on my heart.

Original:

I still have a proverbial “book hangover” from this book. It’s a heart-wrenching novel, filled with thoughtfulness and soul; one that induces a whole new process of thought about life, death, and the imperfect in-between.

Moyes tackles a subject that has dominated headlines in recent years, packaging it in a way that really focuses thought on what is right, what is fair, and what truly matters. Everything progresses in a believable, authentic manner and the novel followed through to the only possible ending, one that stays undeniably true to who the characters are presented to be throughout the novel.

So, the movie adaptation of this book is probably my favourite movie ever. Usually, I try to avoid reading the book, but this time I just had to. I hope this won't be disappointing.

Very moving book! The beginning was a bit slow, but I ended up really relating to and liking Lous character, she is special and not like most main characters I see in books. Even though I don’t necessarily agree with the moral of the book (or at least some of it), it was a good read! It made me want to read more, and it stirred up my emotions. In the end I was almost crying, and I usually don’t cry so that’s a mark of a good book for me. It made me think through questions I thought I already had answers on in a different way, and even though I still stand steady in my beliefs, it made me reflect on it more. After this I want to read more of Moyes, and maybe reread this book! Very much recommended!

I was surprised by how much I liked this book - well, audiobook, as I listened to it. I think the thing that really brought it up a few notches for me was how realistic the story seemed. Not because anything that happened to the characters had ever happened to me. Not by any means.

No, it was real because I could imagine the happenings of the book occurring in the lives of real people. It was so believable: the actions, the feelings portrayed, the conversations.

I can't say that the story is very compelling, necessarily. It's not the sort of book I would usually read, to be honest. But I did enjoy it.

Warning: there is some swearing, so be aware of that.

Just your basic boy mets girl, boy is sick, they fall in love and he dies. Very similar to the movie.
