Disclaimer: I love bears. When I saw this book at my local library under a specialty shelf titled: “Winter Can Be BEARable” I knew I needed to pick it up.
This is a book about science, stories, and reality. Dickie implemented a well-rounded approach to telling each bear’s stories. In that manner, I could not put this book down; I found myself immersed in each excursion to learn more about our unlikely brethren. Dickie does a wonderful job connecting each species’ relevance throughout the history of our planet and their imposed futures.
This is simply a magnificent, insightful, and compelling book about our ursine friends.

Let me start by saying I love bears. They are probably my favorite animal, especially brown bears. I had heard about the more unknown bears (spectacled, sun, moon) but I did not know much about them or their current plight in the world. I liked how the author put her passion on the page. I could tell she has a passion for the bears and wants to spread the word about these magnificent creatures.

Speaking as a completely objective third party observer with absolutely no personal interest in the matter, this is easily the best book on bears you’ll ever read.
