One of the best books I’ve read this year.

The writing in this book is beautiful and it’s hard to deny that. What my biggest hold up is is the romance. I don’t think this book should have included the relationship given the greater context of the story line. I found myself sad that it feels like the reader misses some part of the main characters’ development in lieu of the romantic aspect. Otherwise there isn’t much to say. I look forward to reading more from this author.

This book had me curious, worried, elated, comforted, and sometimes shocked. The only thing keeping it from being a 5 star review for me is that I found it difficult to follow Jacob's side of the story. Each chapter alternated between Jacob's perspective and Sara's perspective. I will be recommending this book to others.

It’s been a few days since I’ve finished this and I’m still quite in love with it. With such a tough subject matter, this book is poetic, brilliant, and pulled at my heart strings. Each of the characters we meet go through quite the journey and development that make the not so perfect tidy ending worthwhile. I’m definitely one who prefers clean tidy no loose ends kind of ending, but I have to say Harris does not do this and it’s still so worth the read and a perfect ending in its own right. Very much one of my favorite books I’ve read this year.
