“One version of my life was unlivable, but not every version”

This book was heavy. Reading in the POV of a very lonely and depressed person is hard. Because I recognise myself. Not every aspect of the book was interesting. There were times where I just wanted to get through a chapter as quick as possible. And I was originally going to give this 3 stars but the way depression is portrayed in this is so so special. It’s so very real. And I really liked that.

this book will forever be so close to my heart. Avery’s story is so beautiful and watching her overcome her depression was so inspiring.

Pretty much 100% delivers on its premise and yet was so different and more genuine than what I expected. Made me cry, made my heart ache, gave me a lot to think about and reflect on and relate to and be grateful for. I think as I sit with this book for longer I might parse out more of its flaws and it might go lower in my rankings, but just now I’m sitting with everything it made me feel towards the end and I don’t have much to critique or even much to say at all!

WAIT I'M BACK WITH MORE! A lot of times, when I read books with depressed main characters, I find myself romanticizing my own sadness or kind of sinking deeper into it. This book did not have that effect-it kinda did the opposite. Just goes to show how carefully written it is
