Soweit so gut.
Warum so viel - aaaaaargh.

Overall I have really enjoyed this series more than I thought I would based on reviews of other readers. On the surface it is similiar in some aspects to the series by J.R. Ward but since I enjoyed that series so much I should have known that I would like the Midnight Breed series as well. I have been tearing through the books this week. I find the characters enjoyable, interesting, engaging, and not much like the Black Dagger Brotherhood series except in the most basic of particulars. Overall, I would recommend this Lara Adrian to other readers in a heartbeat. I think she is somewhat underrated when compared to other authors in the genre.

Oh God my poor Rio! He suffered so much! I'm so glad he finally found someone worthy of him!
SpoilerThat bitch Eva! I know that thanks to her Dylan found him but I didn't like her anyway

I think this book was way better than the others maybe it's because I liked Rio better than the other male characters but I'm also excited for Nikolai's and Andreas Reichen's book!

Oh and
SpoilerTESS IS PREGNANT YEYYYYY

The plot seemed somewhat forced on this one… but it continues the story forward so it wasn’t awful

Midnight Rising
4 Stars

Synopsis:
Fueled by rage following a devastating betrayal, Rio, the most tortured of the Breed warriors, is about to succumb to his darkest thoughts when Dylan Alexander crosses his path. With the power to expose the vampire race to humanity, Dylan must ultimately choose between the life she has always known and her destiny...

Review:
A good story but not as suspenseful or intense as Kiss of Crimson or Midnight Awakening.

Rio and Dylan are a sweet couple. Rio is the epitome of the tortured hero (for which I have a weakness) and Dylan is feisty and definitely has a will of her own. I liked how she doesn’t let Rio or Lucan walk all over her, and is wonderfully accepting of Rio’s physical and emotional flaws. Nevertheless, their romance feels a bit rushed and their chemistry is not as forceful as in the other books.

I also appreciated the differences between Dylan and the other Breedmates. While she is not as sensitive as Tess or as kick butt as Elise, she is special in her own right. To begin with, her ability is darker than those of the others and the manner in which she copes with it reflects her determined spirit. Second, she has connections to the human world that the other mates lack. Unfortunately, Adrian’s methods for severing these ties feel contrived and even predictable.

Another issue I had difficulty with is the fact that Rio seems to overcome his trust issues and fall in love with Dylan far too quickly. This is inconsistent with his characterization in the previous books where he has an intense distrust of women following Eva’s betrayal.

Perhaps it would have been better if Rio’s story came later in the series after more time had elapsed.

The plot revolving around the villain’s plans for the ancient is developing in an interesting and exceedingly diabolical way. This villain is seriously evil and in this respect surpasses those in the previous books. I look forward to seeing how this aspect of the series develops.

Overall, I enjoy the way the series is developing and will definitely continue reading.

3.5 stars. A few things majorly ruined the feel of the book to me, and they all happened on the last 70 or so pages. The stuff with the son of Dragos was just... Cheesy. There was a lord Voldemort/Tom riddle moment where the bad guy used an algorithm to make his street names and shit, one of which didn't even make sense as to why you'd figure it out. And the final 'fight scene' between the son of Dragos and Rio... Was just... Not satisfying at all. They're constantly sitting back with their females instead of chasing down some evil Psychopath to stop them! Like, jump in the damn water and hope you end up in the same place, she's a big girl and if not she can wait in the car he won't be back! Just baffles me the shit they let slide!

What I LOVED however, is that this is basically a beauty and the beast retelling. He's scarred and thinks he's hideous. His on the verge of wanting to die, and she stops him. She's a little annoying with the questions but it's understandable as a reporter, her gift is to see the dead which I didn't like because they were always super cheesy, and I'm so sad over her mother it's ridiculous. But all up it was a good read. Not great, but satisfying enough to continue.
