This was a solid thriller and was different than a lot of others I've read recently. I really liked the Charlie and Sam were both lawyers - it was a nice change from all the thriller protagonists with really weird/improbable jobs.

The plot itself was good and there were enough twists to keep me interested. I wish there had been more of a fleshed-out ending, but I get that's not typical in thrillers.

Definitely a cool read though. All the characters were interesting and well developed, and the author was careful not to stray into having too many central characters to keep track of.

It is weird indeed that I kept turning my head away from Karin Slaughter’s books so long. Apparently she writes the engrossing detective stories with quite impressive character studies. It is just a way I want the detective stories to be. The only thing I have some ambivalent feelings about is brutality of narrative. There are too many graphic details of violence in this book which repetitive and unnecessary and sometimes it felt too much.

I'm probs in danger of becoming a Karin Slaughter superfan 'cause she is ringing all my bells at the moment. This was great; my only criticism would have been that I didn't see what Gamma saw in Rusty and then
SpoilerLenore explained it all. I think I'm now primed to believe that the hot cop/army dude will be the hero but I was way off with that in this one.
The time jumps were done really well.

The book touches some pretty sore topics that can be graphic to certain readers. It isn't meant for lightminded, plainly put, and I was pretty staggered after the first few chapters. I couldn't even finish the first chapter because I had to wrap my head around what was happening in it.

If you get a kick out of a story that makes you sad, angry, traumatized, scared, or disgusted this is a book for you. The story does not focus on all these negative topics, but there are also things telling about family bonds, relationships, and moving on with your life.

However, I could not rate this book 5 stars, because of the pace. I did not mind how some events of the story were repeated when I read it, but in the end, I could admit that the story would have been well off without this feature. The writer could've done the repetition of the events by only showing things that hadn't been revealed previously and not take chunks of paragraphs from the chapters at the beginning of the book.

The book kept me on my toes, that's for certain.

I ate this book up! So addicting to read! I could’ve easily given this a five star rating, but I blame it on my expectations of the book. It still is a brilliantly written and mesmerizing thriller. Definitely a book I would recommend to anyone.

Trigger Warning: There is a lot of violence in this book and a rape scene that is described into detail. Please make sure you are able to handle those before reading.

Thanks to Arjen for doing another buddyread with me. It was so much fun to share my love for Karin Slaughter novels with somebody else. I met Karin Slaughter a while ago and she told, during the interview, that The Good Daughter is something different. It's dark, and it's not from a police POV, which she tends to do in a while. But the Queen of Crime can write it all!

This book is exactly what I'd hoped for by Karin Slaughter and even more. Not a book from a Police POV, but something else. The story itself is so good, there is a lot of tension and mystery. The characters are amazing and I'm sure any Mystery/Thriller lover would rush through. #1 Karin Slaughter Fangirl, OUT.
