TW: outdated terms, physical abuse, religion/cult control/indoctrination, bullying, child abuse and neglect that will be distressing

OOF! Wow that's a heavy read of a little book! Def check the TW for this one. A dark book that handled some really dark and scary topics in a good way.

In ABOMINATION, the bad guys are a religious extremist group that encourages child abuse, dictates what its parishioners wear, and regulates how they behave. It is a condemning look at a religious faction in which the families do not have television, computers, or cell phones. This sort of reminds me of different sects in real life.

Swindells writing style and story is one I wont forget. I was expecting a thriller/horror but what I read was filled with friendship, conflict and I took from it was never judge someone based on appearances as everyone has a story. Its a very strong book with tough subjects such as child abuse I would recommend anyone to read it

Reading this book as a child, I related very heavily to Martha. Growing up in a dysfunctional family, you're constantly told to keep secrets and "act normal" in public. You feel a divide between you and other children and when they inevitably bully you - because you're different and different is WRONG - you're hurt, because all you wanted was to be accepted somewhere. I was cheering for Martha to get out of that situation and find a happy life for herself. This book doesn't pull any punches and has several surprises in store.
