Super dark story and characters. Never really disappointed at Junji Ito's work. The story makes me want to read the original book to see how close this adaptation is. I can already imagine that the original book is pretty deep and the artworks help with some of the concepts

Really intense, but really well done. As a book, I mean its masterful and raw. In terms of Junji Ito's rendition of it, I think the illustrations definitely help with certain themes, such as a
Takeichi being "reborn" as Yoichi. And also the delusions and envisioning different people inhabiting one person.
I think this is wonderfully done and really resonated with me.

As always Junji Ito's art is astonishing! I doubt I would have been able to read this otherwise.
A person you come to hate pretty fast going through a never ending spiral of momentary content quickly followed by self-imposed dispare that almost always leads to  death of a mostly innocent party. Even being haunted by those he wronged he never acknowledged his part in it and instead justifies everything in his own mind, blames the victims and just women in general.

Absolutely brilliant.

Although there was a lot of triggering things about this book and some horrifically graphic scenes, I still believe it is amazing.

It really makes you think about the characteristics of humanity and makes you question others and even yourself. It’s a broadening book with its interesting plot and sense of philosophy.

Oh, I have a mixed feeling about this adaptation of the original novel. First of all, the artstyle is amazing, like wow. It really did so well in the way that it visualizes the narrative of the novel, such as Yozo's anxieties and trauma personified.. It enhanced the reading experience. But on the other hand, I feel like Yozo's character is a bit more demonized than the original work. Like, he becomes even more abusive and misogynistic. I know maybe it's for the horror effect, but it feels like it reduces a portion of the complexity of his character.

I don't have any problem with Ito's own perception of Dazai's work, like the extra scenes and stuff. The bit where Ito choose to
break the 4th wall by inserting Osamu Dazai in the manga is very interesting although a bit odd, I get that it's his take on the narrator of No Longer Human who narrates the life of Yozo Oba from his own perspective.
it's an interesting take.

All in all, one thing that I really respect about Junji Ito is how truthful he visualized Dazai's work. You can see how he honored No Longer Human by making it alive through his drawing and his own style to make the story alive. Respect.

As always Junji Ito's art is amazing. The horror in this is kind of worse because it's more realistic. Though he has some panels with ghostly or creepy imagery that the main character imagines or hallucinates.
