This is a strange book - the whole book centers around a woman and her affair - it constantly switches between little snippets of thoughts - at times it was hard to keep track.
No real storyline, just a series of thoughts......
An interesting concept - I'm not sure I'd like to read again.

Very good. Poetic. Heavy towards the end.

This is my second time reading this one and it is still a solid read but I remember absolutely loving it the first time but this time I find the characters a little hard to root for.

I'm a big fan of Sarah Crossan and her works - her YA verse novels are some of the most stunning things I have ever read. However in this book, her adult debut (I believe), I can't say the same.

One thing this book does well is show how destructive lies and hidden truths (in this case, an affair) can be on someone. Ana's anguish throughout the story is evident, especially in comparison to the flashbacks to when she first met Connor.

However, as the novel went on, I lost all sympathy for Ana and by the time I got to the last 25% of the book, I just wanted it to be over. Could this be because I have no knowledge of how this situation could feel? Possibly. Could this be that this just wasn't the story for me? Maybe.

But what I will say is that the craft of Crossan's writing in this book is beyond stunning. To show such an emotional rollercoaster through verse shows what an amazing writer she is.

Sadly, just not the book for me.

I was disappointed with the poetic writing style but the story definitely grew on me and I really enjoyed exploring the dynamics

This is a unique "love story" following the adulterous relationship between Ana and Connor, both of which are married with children. After Connor dies unexpectedly Ana has to come to terms with the loss of a relationship that only existed in the shadows.

Here is the Beehive is writing in a snappy prose style, I found the writing impactful and easy to follow even though Crossan jumped in and out of the past and present frequently.

This novel has the ability to make you contemplate on the complexity of a relationship that is solely based on lies and secrecy. We are seeing the relationship through the eyes of the mistress so we are left with unanswered questions about the true extent of Connor's feelings for Ana and 'what could have beens'.

I read this in one sitting and found it hard to put down, I highly recommend as quick read! I'll definitely be looking into more of Crossan's work.

This honest review is in exchange for a free copy via Netgalley.

Blum and Orman get a lot of flak from the fan community, but they're usually fairly fun and only occasionally completely obnoxious.

Plus they angst the Doctor up a bit and do their part to make the Eight Doctor more interesting than a few of the others.
