This book was a lot of fun; it got me out of a reading slump, so I thank it greatly for that.

Spoiler I thought the Avengers assemble of people who might have been the murderer being the shows experts was the most iconic and dog move by Nick. I hate that but honestly that was the best thing in the whole book because it’s so awful but I’m obsessed with that. I caught onto Laila being related to Muhammad, but I did not think everyone else would involved that closely. Honestly I was on board for a 4 star read until the ending! The killer being Guy was such a weird plot twist and it dragged me straight out of the trance this book had me in. I think sticking to the (red herring) plot twist of it being Amelie would’ve been much more believable, and more poignant for the discussion around the ethics of true crime. Overall, a very engaging read—I could not put it down—and I had a lot of fun. I also have to say, as an Australian, the fact almost all of these characters believed this random American named Jonah did a convincing Australian accent is a plot hole like no other. I’m sorry that but that’s the truth.

I liked the story, but the whole podcast format just felt gimmicky. Also, I read the paperback version and the graphics like maps and newspaper clippings were way too small and hard to read. It really didn’t add anything to have things like voicemails or Reddit threads laid out like screenshots. All it did was lake the text almost illegible. I think the story could’ve been told without all the gimmicky variety of “sources.” The big twist at the end was unsatisfying because
Spoiler the killer didn’t even have a motive? They were just in a “fugue state”? Come on, do better.

s/o to the kindle for making almost 500 page book feel like nothing . honestly if this was a netflix documentary i would have ate it up. I did see the final plot twist coming but hey its true crime you cant really surprise anyone anymore so it doesnt lose too many points for that. I do like style it was written (like a movie script) but the reddit forum chapters didnt really....add much??? also the profiles of the people at the beginning didn't add much either but i guess its part of the style its written.

i didn't particularly like all the crazy plot twists that were thrown at the very end but also the way the case got so convoluted kinda felt like it did it just cause it can lol LIEK SETTLE DOWN WITH THE RED HERRINGS!!!!!!

I wanted to like this book so much because the format was so different but what was that ending?! You know that meme that says "That's enough slices!!!!!!!!!!". I am this meme reading this book lol. I do have to applaud the uniqueness of the book but I was just disappointed with the ending.
