"The sunrise was the colour of bad blood."
The main reason why I wanted to read this book was because of the narrator, Steven Pacey. He does such a good job at creating new voices you would think the book has several narrators.
Another reason why I wanted to continue this series because the author does an amazing job at the characters and making them come alive.
But I disliked the lack of story in the book. It was about revenge and politics which was quite boring. I like how the author complicates the subject but despite how amazing the characters are there are to many to care for.
“That was the difference between a hero and a villain, a soldier and a murderer, a victory and a crime. Which side of a river you called home.”

A great addition to Abercrombie's Circle of the World - Does it lull in the middle? Yes. Is it groundbreaking fantasy? Not so much. But it is an incredibly well crafted story that is packed with unpredictable characters clamouring for various selfish goals? Absolutely.
