While this is billed as the flagship title for the X-Men books, because Uncanny has always had the original numbering of the original X-Men book, this really reads as more of a companion to Bendis's [b:All-New X-Men, Volume 1: Yesterday's X-Men|16002164|All-New X-Men, Volume 1 Yesterday's X-Men|Brian Michael Bendis|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1525076481i/16002164._SY75_.jpg|21764141]. The Cyclops as a political figure/leader of a mutant revolution is extremely intriguing, but I find it works better as a background story to the Original X-Men team is in the modern era conceit of All New X-Men.

Bachalo is one of my favorite X-Men artists of all-time. His work on this book is good, but not his best. I prefer his Wolverine & The X-Men work which directly preceded this. I don't enjoy Frazier Irving's art on anything, and it doesn't help that he's relegated to the Ilyana storyline, which I found so dull that I was flipping through the final issue to make sure nothing important happened during it (and nothing did).

The younger X-Men in this book don't really have a ton of personality, apart from Tempus, so the focus is mainly on how Cyclops, Emma Frost, Magneto, and Magik handle their changing power set and their place as leaders of a mutant revoltion that is ... smaller than you might think.

I only recommend it as something to flesh out Bendis's far superior All New X-Men run. There's nothing wrong with this title, but it's just an average X-book that you could easily skip and not miss anything important.

Definitely uneven, but it felt too short - which I took to be a good sign. A version of Scott Summers and Emma Frost that I don't hate, kind of inconceivable. And Ilyana Rasputin as an actual person, well almost. There might be something here but it is too soon to tell. With good enough art. 3.5 of 5.

Bendis is not an earth shattering superstar, but no one is as consistently good as Bendis. Art here is realistic with just a touch,of Manga. At least it's not Bagley! Great plot having Cyclops in Magneto's us against them role.

GUYS I need to read whatever comics where Cyclops actually killed Xavier because I have read like 500 comics where people are mad about it and not seen the actual event?

OH WELL I liked this well enough. I like the new students, and I almost always like the ~political~ X-Men storylines.

Scott is not the one for me. Headlining the team, I had slyly hoped there would be a little less of him... but he was annoyingly present the whole time. Out of the whole team (Scott Summers, Emma Frost, Magneto, Magik, Triage, Tempus... not counting the others, they do nothing), Tempus was the one I wanted the most out of here, and didn't get much in return. There were a couple of token extra mutants trying to be part of the team, but they fell a bit flat and seemed very minor. A bit of plot with Magneto then seemed to fade into the background very quickly as Magik suddenly was having all sorts of power issues- without really addressing the other issues of new teammates, Scott having apparently killed Xavier, and Magneto being a mole. I would have liked something a bit more Runaways style, with the new team getting used to being X-men, although I fear that's a bit niche for a mainstream X-Men comic.

After the whole AVX debacle, I really hesitated picking up this book, or anything written by Bendis for that matter. If the sequel to [b:X-Men, Vol. 1: Primer|17824754|X-Men, Vol. 1 Primer|Brian Wood|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1387147446s/17824754.jpg|24934358] hadn't involved a crossover with this series, I probably wouldn't have bothered. Now that I've read it ? I'm not sure I want to read more.

Let's start with one of my main problems with this volume : the drawings. The artist doesn't seem to know how to draw different faces for their female characters, which is infuriating. There were whole panels where I didn't know whether it was Emma (who by the way looks like a little girl most of the time) or Magik talking !!

As for the storyline, I was really nonplussed by it. The whole "broken powers" thing could be interesting, but aside of that... I don't know, it just didn't really touch me or anything. It didn't mnge to mke me care - and these are characters I LOVE !

Basically, it had its moments, but aside of that I'm not impressed.

Yeah, this was fine. I love the X-Men, but Cyclops has never been a character to whom I've been drawn, so it makes sense that I didn't connect with this book as much as I might have another. The story was interesting, and I like the idea of finding and shepherding all the new mutants, there just weren't enough characters that I really liked to draw me in.

ETA: I forgot to mention that Iliyana & Emma Frost both seem to be huge fans of the leather-no-pants-boobs-AND-midriff look. It was a bit much, really.

Good read, a bit of melodrama, and half good art. When Bachalo is on the book, it's fantastic. His backup makes me want to leave the title altogether. The story telling isn't the most well paced, and it's overshadowed now with the build up to Battle of the Atom, but overall, there's a lot to like and stay around.
