I’ve been hooked on the Ruth Galloway series ever since the first book. This book was very middle of the road for me. It didn’t intrigue me as much, but I also found that it didn’t bug me as much as the other books. It was just... okay I guess. Still a nice read, but not as much character development. The only one that gets a bit of a spotlight is Cathbad, even though we still don’t know very much about him. I don’t even know what he looks like! (Apart from grey hair in a ponytail and the occasional cloak). Maybe it was in the books somewhere but Shona gets a description of her appearance almost every time she is mentioned for instance.

So without spoiling.... the things I liked:

Ruth in a different environment
Cathbad really shines
It feels like Ruth finally knows how to have a little fun

Things I didn’t like:
Mystery was a little plain
Nelson should quit whining
I missed Judy and Clough

Ruth and Harry get on but not in the way they might want and Cathbad grows more than he expects to. Likely, though, he’s the most mature of the lot.

The slowest one yet, but the twists in the second half made up for it.

Oh man we didn't know how good we had it in 2010. The Nazis in this book are so quaint and hypothetical.
