Just not feeling it with this one. Perhaps I just wasn't in the mood.

This one was interesting because of his ability with nature.... I thought it was pretty cool that he could build them shelter with the mere thought of it while lying in the woods. The tension is getting deeper with the whole "elder Alien" being alive and being used to make an army.

Absolutely love this series.

Her character creation is very good. There are a few story lines running at once, and all of them make you eager for more. Well done. I was about to give up on this genre.

If I laugh out loud, shed a tear, or hold my breath while reading a book - I know it's good. And this one, and the rest of the series are definitely ones that make me emotionally connected to the characters.

Well done. Well done.

Thank you Lara Adrian for bringing the Midnight Breed World alive for your readers.

Considering i motored through all 5 of the Midnight Breed books in a little over a week, it wouldn't be a surprise if i hadn't burned myself out on them, at least to a certain degree. But, regardless...this book was rather disappointing for me. I felt little if any emotional attachment to the main characters, Niko and Renata. For me, they lacked the intense physical and emotional connection that the other couples from the previous books had in spades. The fact that those other characters made only brief appearances in this book, was just another reason that the story on a whole, felt rather hollow and forced at times.

I've been waiting for Niko's story and VEIL OF MIDNIGHT doesn't disappoint. Niko is charming, and alpha and he loves weapons and explosives, but we see a more serious side to Niko in this book. He's tasked with finding and warning a reclusive Gen One vampire but that all gets derailed when he learns what Yakut is doing on his property. To make matters worse, he's insanely attracted to Renata and he knows he can't have any distractions.

I really enjoyed Renata because she's this tough, badass woman who might have found herself in bad circumstances but she refuses to give up. She's so incredibly strong and I respected her so much. Even better, Niko respected Renata's strength and they made a great match. Of course, things start off really rocky at first but I liked how these two came to trust each other and eventually fall in love.

In addition to the main couple, there's also some really interesting development in the overall Breed story and I'm curious to see where it all goes.

Content Warning: Renata is forced to share her blood with Yakut

I have read Nico and Renata's story a few times. I still get all the thrills and chills. I still feel all of their hopes and dreams.

11/09/2019. I listened to the audiobook. I highly recommend it. The narrator does an amazing job of getting the emotions across, using different voices and accents to bring the story to life.

11/05/2022 With the series conclusion it was time for a binge listen. Even after all these years, Midnight Breed is a favorite of mine.

My one complaint is that I wish it was drawn out longer, but it was still a really good story.
