It took me so long to finish this book because i didn’t like it at all. The story got too big to be consistent and interesting. From main characters literally only callum didn’t piss me off (a big upgrade from the first book). And the romantic relationships were so bad (i’m not talking about gideon and nico, i love them). Also how is it that everyone falls for libby??? Maybe if there was more about Atlas i would actually want to read this part but there’s still a lot of unanswered questions. And tbh i hate when in books everything is explained in the end and i can feel this is going to happen in this series… idk i recommend coming up with something else to keep your readers interested…

Where The Atlas Six was a character study of some VERY flawed and focused individuals, The Atlas Paradox seems to be more of a rumination on fate, power, the use and ownership of knowledge, religion, philosophy, and the bonds of connection (whether they be of love or hate or indifference).

In a way, the book was about nothing and everything simultaneously. We follow the Society initiates as they pursue their own research in year 2, but it seems as if in the process of doing research, they are all following different threads that few seem to see are connected to a greater whole. And Libby is still displaced in time due to Ezra's (foolhardy?) belief that he is fixing something that can be fixed.

We see more into the minds and natures of each of the medeians (their powers and their shortcomings). We find that the library archives are more sentient (and perhaps villainous in their own way) than it first appears. And while arguments and ideas are thrown about, in the end, there are always more questions than answers. It's the nature of life, really. We only know what we know, and that guides what we see of ourselves and the world.

Not enough happened for this to be 3 stars, and the character building wasn’t solid enough to rescue the lack of plot. Close, but not quite effective enough. Enjoyable! Just disappointing once you realize nothing really happened and you didn’t learn anything along the way.

I would not have thought that a book that consists mostly of people having cagey, tense conversations with each other would be enjoyable, but it really is. After book one I did ask myself if the author had a solid plan to build on the foundation. Not only is this clearly the case, but the whole world feels real and in depth in a very engaging way. Great world, great characters, great prose.
