A solid thrilling start with a very interesting concept. All the grown-ups just disappear overnight, and 5 kids are left alone to fend for themselves.

Read for the Stan Lee Excelsior Award 2015: http://www.excelsioraward.co.uk/
I think some S1s may enjoy this, however some may find it a little tame in comparison to similar novels - such as Michael Grant's Gone series and Charlie Higson's The Enemy series - which they will have read.
I like the blend of characters, the art is great and it is an intriguing set up. The sense of peril is nicely built up, however the payoff ends up feeling a little babyish (much more so than that cover suggests). It is the first in the series - and it is aimed at 9-12 year olds - so I will try not to judge it too harshly.

Dystopian. Adventure. Perspective from kids.
Story: After an intro featuring a backstory from each of the kids, we are thrown into a world of emptiness. No lights. No cars. Paper trash blowing in the wind down the streets. A single hello calls out, a young voice searching for anyone. Emotionally distraught he carries a club to defend himself and is startled when a young girl and a boy brake suddenly near him on a bicycle. And thus begins a Dystopian world where seemingly only a handful of children survive.
Language: This is a short graphic novel at only around 56 pages. The color palette features many greys, browns, reds and yellows. There's no language and violence is minimal, but the threat of violence and emotional intensity of the characters make this more suited to adult and YA reading. A preview cover of book two features guns, knives and axes, so it's advisable to look ahead before suggesting the start of the series to younger readers.
Characters: There are only five characters, so it's very easy to follow along with each one. They all have distinct personalities, backgrounds and looks. As they are children , it will be interesting to see character development as the series continues.
A solidly good start to a modern dystopian.

Très intrigant cette série. Et ce tome a des passages qui m'ont fait froid dans le dos... C'est moins léger que ce à quoi je m'attendais et du coup, c'est bien !
