Lots of fun, but these Bridgerton novels do have a formula. Perfect if you don't want to think too hard.

This absolutely has to be my least favorite love story in all of the Bridgerton series. Let’s start from the beginning.

Eloise Bridgerton is a force to be reckoned with, and her marriage to her distant cousin’s husband through me off completely. Now, after reading further and noticing that they probably only married because his brother died, I was able to let that go. But, it was also Sir Phillip’s insistence he just wanted a mother for his children and their acceptance of comfortability instead of true love that turned me off completely from their marriage. Now, I recognize his trauma and how he had to heal from it and I also recognize that their love grew overtime; however, I feel like Eloise deserved more. She refused 6 marriages to end up “lying in the bed she made”? That is simply unfair.

I did, however, love the children and Eloise become a mother to them. In the second epilogue the small love story I got between Amanda and Charles was more interesting to me than this, but I digress. My favorite scenes included the other Bridgerton’s MINUS the scene with Benedict because Ms. Julia… has he not suffered enough already?

All in all, I just wish Eloise had a firey love from the start. Someone who challenged her and didn’t just want her for sec and being a mother. Again, i do appreciate how their love grew, but the journey there was less than what Miss Eloise Bridgerton deserved.

I went through a Bridgerton binge last year after watching the Netflix show, and was enjoying them all until I got to this one. I don't know, maybe I was tired of the audiobook narrator (though I generally think she does a good job) or maybe I just needed a break from romance, but whatever the reason I stopped on this one and let the series alone for a year.
I decided to try again yesterday, and sped through it! I found Phillip much more sympathetic upon my second go-round, and truly enjoyed his and Eloise's whirlwind courtship. Plus who doesn't enjoy a good old shovel talk from a group of protective brothers?

I'm not sure how I feel about this, given Eloise's portrayal so far in the show... We'll see.
