Overall I really enjoyed this trilogy leveraging a different setting and mythological backdrop to those most common in the west. It didn’t have the moral complexity that would make it a 5 star for me. But the world building was nicely done and I loved spending time in it.

Dara’s entire story/character arc makes me sick to my stomach and this book and it’s ending amplified that feeling by a 100.

Overall a solid entry as a fantasy trilogy. Definitely picked up steam as the 3rd book, much more consistent action and plot progression. In retrospect, the second book had some issues with that, got mired in city politics etc, but honestly thought the author did a great job of bringing it together and tying things up in a satisfying way. Still don't quite understand the relationship between the marids, daevas and peri, but maybe that's the point. Some ongoing mystery is always fine in these series, leaving it up to the imagination keeps some of the magic alive. Would likely read more by this author.
