It's great when characters don't explain themselves to death and the reader is left with some puzzlement. I look forward to more of Berney's books.

Annoying characters, exhausting plot, anticlimactic ending. I don’t understand the hype surrounding this book. 😐

More like 3.5. I enjoyed the story, but didn't find it as engaging as most reviewers. I kept wondering if the stories would intersect at some point, but they didn't.

Two people, as adults, struggle to find out why two unrelated murders took place when they were children. Their narratives only cross briefly, but the resolution is rewarding. More about what is like to be the survivor after the murder of loved ones, than a who-done-it. Thoughtful and interesting take on the mystery genre.

Really really interesting approach to a mystery/thriller I really enjoyed and thought that it was new

He's a great writer and the plot of this collection of seemingly unconnected stories end up crossing paths in masterful ways. I can't wait to read his other novels.
