I was surprised at how good this book actually was. It had a decent story, and was pretty well written. It didn't take that simple talking down tone that children's books so often do. I don't understand why the creatures on the planet were referred to as Draigons though. They didn't have any ready access to data on the system, so why not just call them dragons?

And with this I've fallen into EU hell and I have no regrets.

Loved seeing the beginning of Obi Wan and Qui Gons relationship even if it’s no longer considered canon by Disney

I read this after Episode I came out when I became obsessed with Star Wars and Obi-Wan Kenobi. After the Episode VII trailer was released 2 weeks ago it has made me get back into Star Wars hardcore. I wanted to read something about Obi-Wan, but it seems that the Star Wars EU doesn't seem to be too interested in tell his story. I remembered these from when I was a kid, and decided to re-read them.

Granted the book is written for kids from 10-12 I would say. The plot wasn't too complex, but I did like the way the author wrote Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon. I really enjoyed this book, it allowed me to get a look at Obi-Wan before he became a Padawan. It was also interesting reading Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon interact for the first time. Also, some back story on Qui-Gon as well. Can't wait to get my hands on the next book.

I have read the first eleven books of this series. The series starts before Episode One when Obi-Wan is almost thirteen. At first I thought the books looked too short to be any good. When I started reading I quickly changed my mind. Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon are likable characters and the books are well written. It was easy enough reading for my nine year old brother but entertaining and well written enough that I enjoyed it too. One of the things I really liked about these books is that Obi-Wan respects Qui-Gon and when he doesn’t listen to him he learns his lesson which is very rare in today’s children’s books.
I highly recommend this series (or at least the first eleven books) to anyone who likes science fiction or Star Wars.
