This book had me in so many emotions. So many thoughts. I was upset with Iris but then I felt so hopeless for her. I am glad that in the end she got her happy ending and August was there for her and had all the patience in the world.

I really want to emphasise before anything that this is a book about abuse and what it is like to be in a very dangerous and abusive relationship. Please, please, PLEASE be careful when reading and ALWAYS check the trigger warnings. This book contains MAJOR triggering content. If you need help, please know there is always help.

This is a basketball, sort of second chance romance. It brings about conversations of being biracial and never feeling like you belong to either half of yourself. The romance in this book is swoon-worthy. August is a god among men and Iris is one of the strongest FMCs I've ever had the pleasure of reading about. This story shows how important it is to surround yourself with people that have your back and will always love you unconditionally. This is a real and raw story and I know a lot of people won't be able to read it because it is so triggering but I am thankful for Kennedy Ryan creating this brilliance and using her voice. This is one that will evoke so much emotion out of you.

A love story that is hopeful and uplifting, but not lighthearted at all.  It can break you yet heal you.
A woman rescues herself from a partner that abuses her physically and verbally.  She meets someone who loves her very much.
There is violence on the page, difficult to read but it did not feel gratuitous.
A great author.

I hate this cover but I loved this book. Actually so good, and oof really tough. Trigger warnings galore. But so much heart. I really cared about protagonists and felt their chemistry. Which was surprising because I think many authors fail at good chemistry when characters have only had a handful of small encounters, but Kennedy did so well.

Mainly upset though that abortion wasn’t an option… like she didn’t even think about it, when there was really nothing stopping her at the time…

Long Shot depicts a relationship that isn't really a relationship in the beginning. August and Iris meet by chance. And there's a deep connection between them. Only, Iris has a boyfriend. As it turns out, Iris' boyfriend is August nemisis.
There are a lot of hard subjects brought up in Long Shot, and I cried more than once! It was so difficult to read about everything Iris went through - and how she felt like nothing would ever change for her. And how afraid she was.
The story is beautifully written, and Ms. Ryan has become a new autobuy author for me - not only because the characters feel real, but because she tackles real life problems with flair.

I really enjoyed this book, loved the fact that there were other themes explored not just the romance. Loved the portrayal of a positive male role model. References to basket ball and the discipline sports brings. Love how abuse always dealt with.

Excellent writing from Kennedy Ryan as always.

I saw this book described as a “ode to survivors” and it could not have been more accurate. This was equal parts heartbreaking and beautiful while packed full of strength and grit. Such an important read and a reminder of how you never really know what goes on behind closed doors.

Please check TW before reading as this is a very heavy book.
