I love Lisa Jewell. Each book that I read get creepier and creepier! This story moves back and forth between the past and the present. In the past, a family living in a giant house becomes more and more cult like as they give up all family possessions and slowly become confined to the house. How did three grown ups end up dead and where did the teenage children go? The only living thing in the house is a 10 month old baby. Years later, When “ the baby” turns 25, everything changes for this family and the story of what happened slowly begins to unravel. Thank you so much to NetGalley for my advanced copy of this book.

OHMYGOD. Seriously. The premise is totally original (IMO), and I could not put this down. The only complaint I have is that I wish authors would not name their main characters with names starting with the same letter. I kept getting Lucy and Libby confused a bit and then had to backtrack. Otherwise, this was an exceptional thriller.

Thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for a copy of the ARC.

It was a slow read at first. Then it ended. I’m glad there’s book 2 cuz I still had questions at the end of book 1.

Lisa Jewell’s brain and writing style is engaging.

Some of the content is uncomfortable, and often times gross. The characters are obscure and live with so much package and pain. Mr. Thomsen is a despicable man, but so are Mr. and Mrs. Lamb.

I loved Henry’s concoctions. He did what he needed to to survive!

While there may have been somewhat of a happy ending, it was not my feel good type of happy ending.
