I love this book. It's out of print, but I'm still on the hunt to buy a copy.
Tameika has a beautiful confidence, and I love that she is not shy. So many kids' books feature overcoming stage fright, which is great, but this girl knows what she loves and it's fantastic.
After overhearing some mean kids talk about the reasons why she "can't" be Snow White in the school play, Tameika's confidence is shaken. But she has fantastic parents who support her, and she won't be pushed off the stage so easily.

This is a beautiful book. The end.

A sweet message to children. When reading the description, I was excited to see a "chubby" character positively portrayed in a picture book. However, in nearly all images she looks the same size as every other character and when directly talking about her being chubby she is just portrayed with a pooched out belly resembling a toddler's regular belly rather than what an actual chubby grade-schooler might look like.

Yesssss! This is a fantastic picture book. I love everything about it. Tameika loves to sing and dance and perform--but she's never played a princess. When her school opens auditions for Snow White, Tameika is super excited to audition. But when she hears other kids whisper that she is too tall, too chubby, and too brown to play Snow White, she starts to wonder if they might be right after all. With her confidence shaken, Tameika asks her parents who tell her that she isn't too much of anything and that she has all of the right things for whoever she wants to be. When it's time for her audition, Tameika remembers the joy she feels when she performs and she gives it her all. And everyone loves it! (And spoiler: she gets the part!) A beautiful, gentle story about embracing all of your positives and finding out that you are more than enough just as you are. The artwork is stunning, glossy and detailed with shifting perspectives and a lot of variety in each spread. Watch for this one and be sure to add a copy to your shelves!

This was such a cute little picture book. I really loved how you could see Tameika grow through the book and realize that she can do what she wants. The subtleness of childrens books is something I always love. The supportiveness of parents and the emotions in the illustrations is stellar. SO good.

A gorgeous picture book centered on body image and positivity.

The illustrations are absolutely fantastic. They wonderfully portrayed Tameika's movement and emotion. Adorable art style.

The plot of the book was also well done. It is simple and entertaining enough that children would be interested in it, while still getting across an important message. I loved the emphasis on actions and skills over appearance. While Tameika may not look like the traditional image of Snow White, she proved that she was the right fit through her talent and passion, demonstrating that appearance isn't everything.

A wonderful book with adorable illustrations and a heartfelt story. I really enjoyed it.

I love, love, love this book. Tameika is a spunky, fun, and bright main character. Her self-doubt when facing white standards of beauty is depressingly true-to-life, but her family bolsters her confidence and when she overcomes her doubt, she truly shines. She may be "not quite Snow White", but she is 100% beautiful, real, shiny Tameika.
