Didn’t know what to expect for a series reboot, but damn. I love it as much as ever, if not more. This isn’t meant to be an objective review. I just personally really enjoy being back with my favourite characters, and I’m excited to get to know the new ones. The audiobooks are fantastic.

I think this says everything about this book that needs to be said: The minute this book went live to pre-ordered, not only did I in fact preorder the book, but I also added it to me 2017-favorites shelf. I knew from the jump that this would be not only a favorite of this year, but THE favorite (maybe tied with Oathbringer in November, we'll see.

If you haven't read this series, please do so immediately. Drop everything and pick up the first book. The series doesn't really get amazing until the fourth book, but that's because you don't really fall in love with all of the characters until then. All of the books are amazing (well, book 2 is sub-amazing, but there's always the red-headed step-child).

Omen wasn't my favorite addition to the series (although I did like Never a lot!), and I figured out the thing about Lethe before it was actually revealed, but this book was still annoying. My only real gripe would be there wasn't enough China Sorrows or Dr Nye (in fact, there was none of Dr Nye), but there will never be enough of them in any book for me, so I can't hold that against the book (Mr Landy though? He better watch out!).

I can't wait for this second arc to continue. Harry Potter who? Percy Jackson who?

Yes! Skulduggery and Valkyrie are back!!

This story did a great job of keeping the humor of the previous books, while also acknowledging the weight of what happened in the previous books, all while leaving us with the excitement of new novels to follow.

This story feels like a more mature version of what came before. Quite excellent.

I liked that val came back but wasn’t herself because there is no way you could jump back into it after what happened to her. Also still made me laugh which is good and I liked the additions to the universe because they killed off a lot of characters.
I did figure out the twist pretty quick so wasn’t impressed by that. But the story line was good and I like xena.

It was just perfect! I missed Skulduggery and Valkyrie and it was nice to see them together again. Though I think that my favorite part of his books will always be the dedications!

A surprisingly good return to form for Derek Landy and the Skulduggery series! I wasn't too enamoured with the "final" instalment in the Skulduggery Pleasant series, finding it, while interesting, ultimately somewhat disappointing, so when this book was announced, I wasn't quite sure if I'd even read it, never mind like it. But I have to say, this was a really excellent return to the world in my opinion, that fixed some of the issues I had with some of the characters *COUGH Valkyrie Cain *COUGH I had so much promise and then I got cocky and stupid*, and introduced some new characters and concepts that really opened up the world and made me really excited for any further books that I hope come out in the series. Overall, the story was very engaging and exciting with some excellent plot points and heart felt moments, and it brought me back to what I loved about SP in the first place: the magic and the excitement that comes from Skulduggery and Valkyrie working together as a proper team, and all of the exciting adventures that come with that. 4.75/5 stars

4.5 stars for the beginning of the new SP adventure.

Suspenseful, funny, emotional, like old times
- but not as suspenseful, funny and emotional as the last books.

It was great to be back, but some of my all time favourites sadly didn't make it into the book (Spacegrace, Vally's Dad Desmond, Tanith Low, ...).

Vakyrie's emotional trauma was written really, really well.
(But what about Tanith who had a remnant controlling her, whose life also got torn apart by Darquesse?! She lost Ghastly and Billy-Ray, and after the whole fight, Vally just left as well, leaving her alone with all this...)

Also great criticism of a certain president.

And thumbs up for including a non-binary character very casually and without making a fuss about it. That's how it's done.

I'm really looking forward to reading the next one.
I hope to get to see more of my favourites and I really hope that Skul and Val don't get romantic.

I didn’t realize that Derek Landy was still writing books for this series. I thought the series ended with “The Dying of the Light.” It’s every bit as entertaining as the previous 9 books and completing this book marks a great start to this year, during which I am making sure that I read more.
