I really loved this. It felt like a fitting end to the series, calling back to the beginning in characters and themes, but the author's so clearly grown as well as the characters, so everything's deeper and brighter and tighter than the earlier books. Alec and Seregil working together and individually, and Mika becoming more distinct, and Klia and Thero filling their own roles in the world - just wonderful.

I wish Lynn Flewelling would keep writing Nightrunner books because I honestly never want to read anything else ever again. I've never been so taken in with a book or series before, and I am so sad that it's come to an end.

At the end she says this is likely the last book in the series, and I'm okay with that. They're starting to feel a little less...urgent. Happy to have had these characters around for a while, though.

The only thing better than discovering a new favourite fantasy series is finding out that said series has an exceptionally well executed and deeply satisfying ending. These books meant so much to me in the past year and the last volume delivered everything I could ask for and more, and I really couldn't be any happier about it.

Back to the typical days of nightrunning with a touch more of the supernatural, but with a much more established relationship between Alec and Seregil, which I appreciate. The cast overall is smaller, but more focused on each of them as a result and the book gains from it. The story ties neatly into the rest of the worldbuilding. Enjoyable, though not groundbreaking

Alec and Seregil receive a request to investigate the locked-room murder of the governor of Kouros and his mistress. Together with their friends, they dive head first into a case of missing persons, ghosts, and realm trapped in time. A fitting ending to the Nightrunner series.

No spoilers but I loved this series so much - I'm not really sure what to do with myself now that I'm done with it.
