No one behaves like an actual person in this crap book. Charlie is a female character obviously written by a man who think women are weak idiots. The fact she marries the dude who torments her in the first half is absolutely my best example. Almost every action Charlie takes makes her out to be the dumbest person, even without her ridiculous made up movie visions. It’s almost like Sager wrote an ending that shows the whole thing was the crappy, Hollywood version of the story because he knew the book was a crappy, Hollywood version of a story. It was page turning enough to earn higher than one star but every twist was so utterly predictable and ridiculous that it barely squeaked a 2.

First of all, I was so excited for the release of this book & when I heard some mixed reviews, I was really nervous to get into it.

But thankfully, I really enjoyed this book!

As usual, Riley Sager did a fantastic job of creating this atmosphere where I was constantly on the edge of my seat while reading this.

I loved the isolative settings, the long stretches of empty roads. Additionally, I think setting this book in 90s before everyone had phones handy, really added to the isolation and suspense.

I did think it was strange at the start why Charlie got into the car with Josh, but as the story progressed, I definitely came to understand how she made that decision.

I thought I had the story sussed, I knew the ending, I was so sure but I was do wrong, I never could have guessed that twist & it was amazing!

Overall, I gave this 4 stars!

Thank you to Riley Sager, Hodder & Stoughton and NetGalley for an eArc of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I’m really not sure how I felt about this book. My first impressions were I really enjoyed the book. I thought it was interesting that she confused real life with her imagination. My second thought is the ending was bad. There was too many twists, I think the boyfriend being the serial killer was extremely wild and seemed like cheap writing. I think it would have been better to not have the serial killer caught at the end. Since the guy who kidnapped her wasn’t the serial killer it seems weird to name a random character as it. We could have just never known.

Third thought: the author must really think women are stupid. Her best friend was killed by a serial killer and months later she gets in a car with a total stranger? Are you serious??? Make it make sense.

I didn’t like how at the very end of the book she ended up with the guy her “kidnapped” her and acted like he was a serial killer. I understand her maybe trying to save his life so she doesn’t have his death on his conscience but to marry him at the very end???

I went into this book with a slightly closed mind as it seemed like a story that has been told time and time again. Boy was I wrong! This book had as many twists and turns as the drive home Charlie embarked on with stranger Josh. Riley Sager does it again with another incredible psychological thriller!

I read many mixed reviews on this book, but I genuinely enjoyed it. As my first Riley Sager read, I’m excited to read more.

From the unreliable narrator to the intense, atmospheric vibes, I felt like I was in there alongside Charlie the entire time. Sager does a fantastic job making the readers feel the intensity of the plot. The moment I thought I had this book figured out, I was took in an entirely different direction.

I recommend this read!

What I have learned about a RS book is that what you think is going on, is never really what's going on. And that just when you think it's all done, there's always another curve ball coming.
