Action packed from beginning to end. I liked the book. I look forward to reading other books in the series.

3.5 stars. Now, the story was not bad at all, that is why I finished it. Wanted to see how this ends. I don't mind a cool attractive hero wizard, but Nate is just...too hot, too rich, too cocky, too quick tempered, just too too much. Bring him down a peg or two, make him just a little humble and I might like him better. Secret wizard? Nope, he liked flaunting his magic no matter how subtle the magic. Now, the women, real, magical, mythical and dragon. Really? All of them sexy, sultry, dangerous and beautiful. One look and the men are mindless and hopess. All of them borderline nymphomaniacs. No. Just no.

MC is a bit too Mary Sue for my taste. And some of the worst written sexy scenes I've seen. Still, I bought the trilogy, so I'll give it 3 books to get better.

I found it juvenile. While original, it did not capture my attention, much less hold it... sorry. Felt like a frat boys kind of read.

Fast-paced fun read

As a fan of urban fantasy such as Jim Butcher’s The Dresden Files, Seanan McGuire’s October Daye, and Annie Bellet’s Twenty-sided Sorceress, the premise of this book appealed to me. It is a fun introduction into the world of Nate Temple full of fascinating characters, mythical creatures, and a plot that kept me hooked. Silvers has woven together modern tech, magic, and ancient legends into an enjoyable read. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the series as well as his Callie series set in the same universe.

I really liked the fact that this story pulled influences from so many other places: superheroes, mythology, magic, etc. It was fun to see how everything wove together and Nate Temple is an charming, engaging protagonist. This book definitely makes me want to check out others in the series.

I read this book for what it was a quick and entertaining read. For all his arrogance and showboating I still found Nate funny while rolling my eyes. I couldn't give more than three stars however because it became a little predictable but I will probably read the next book.

Book review of Obsidian Son, Book 1 in the Nate Temple series by Shayne Silvers

I borrowed this boxed set roughly 2 years ago, started Book 1 and got pulled away by ARC commitments. I finally got some free time to read to read and picked this back up.

I am SO glad I did! It was a raucous irreverent FUN read! Nate is my kind of Wizard! I am very much looking forward to more Adventures of this smart mouthed brilliant Wizard with little to no sense of self preservation!

I will post a review for each book as I read it.
