I've read the Jules Verne version of the book, but unfortunately you can't choose it on this app.

So I definitely had this book mixed up with the similarly titled The Mutiny on Board the HMS Bounty which is a nonfiction account of the mutiny written by the captain who was mutinied. I own both so I feel like this was an ok mistake to make.

Anyway, this is a fictionalized account of the mutiny, unfortunately focusing on the most boring part: the people who didn't actually mutiny, nor were they mutinied. They were just kind of along for the ride. I wanted to know more about Christian and the mutineers who ended up on Pitcairn Island, not the folks who just chilled in Tahiti for like four years until a British ship showed up and took them back to England to be court martialed. Even the mutiny itself was only like 10 pages long. I'm looking forward to reading Bligh's account, since at least it will cover how he and his crew got themselves saved.

A really good read. One of the classics that isn't boring! Amazing how long it used to take to travel places and leave your life behind.

I had remembered liking the movie when I was little, but I can't say I really enjoyed the book. It was more disapointing than anything else, with the actual mutiny being the most anticlimatic thing about the book. Boring.

I wandered into this book knowing only that it was based on a true story and that it was highly recommended by a friend. Actually, he most highly recommended the second and third books in the trilogy, but one must start somewhere.

Roger Byam is our protagonist, a fictional character dropped into an adventure that happened in real life, in the year 1789. The crew of the HMS Bounty, fed up with cruelty of their captain, commandeered the ship and sent him and those who supported him adrift.

This first book follows Byam and others who were unfortunate enough to not be one of the mutineers but were also not set adrift with their captain. Byam makes his way back to Tahiti but remains constantly on the lookout for the next British ship to appear on the horizon.

Mutiny is a classic and very well written seafaring adventure. Though the penalties for muntineering were severe, one can see why men would have been tempted to do so when saddled with a captain who was intolerably cruel with an intemperate personality.

Though I might not have approached this book without the recommendation, I'm happy to have discovered it and will almost certainly continue with the trilogy.
