Key Change is a wholesome and heartwarming romance novel about a retired pop star and an old fling of hers who are unexpectedly reunited. I devoured this audiobook (which was really well executed) and immediately fell in love with Hannah and Johnny. Hutchinson does an incredible job in showing immense amounts of growth in Hannah, without lots of flashbacks, which can make a story confusing. I also enjoyed the suspenseful/real world conflict aspect of the story brought in around Johnny’s immigrant family and the discrimination his younger brother faces at his prep school. This is the definition of a slow burn story but it totally makes sense for these characters who already have so much history and baggage. They both need time to heal before they can be together and I really appreciated that this story was not rushed. The younger siblings are hilarious, but they also add real depth to the story. If you’re thinking about giving this one a listen-- do it! You won’t regret it. 5/5⭐️

I received a copy of this audiobook in exchange for my honest opinion

Closed door slow burn

Hannah is hiding her true identity from everyone. As the notorious singer Ashton James, she really made a name for herself - with negative press outweighing her talent by the end of it. And so she has spent the last two years looking after her younger sister, in hiding, leading a mundane life.

One day she is recognised by a young musician who slips her his demo tape. Horrified that he may sell her out, she turns up at his house to pay him (or his parents) off. But it turns out that his guardian is his older brother, Johnny. Johnny, who loathes Ashton James due some shared history. Shared history that Hannah just can’t remember.

A unique take on enemies to friends to lovers. Hannah was unapologetically honest (with the exception of holding out on the fact that she’s Ashton James from the majority of the world), filled with regret at her previous bad choices, and was constantly working on being a better person. For her sister’s sake. And for herself.

Johnny’s initial hatred of her was totally understandable considering their history. But he couldn’t help be drawn in by Hannah, who was so different to the Ashton James that he remembered. He fell hard and fast, and extremely reluctantly.

Their siblings, Pippa, and Shawn, were adorable, well-rounded teens. Johnny’s extended family were loud and outspoken, but wonderful. And it was great to see Quinn and Alex from the KITC series!

I was given an ARC of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Key Change is the third installment in the Common Threads romance series. This book follows the story of Ashton James alias Hannah Lee, once a famous (or infamous, depending on your perspective) pop singer, now living under the radar caring for her younger sister, Piper. When Hannah runs into a ghost from her former life, she has to determine what steps she will take to make sure her true identity is never exposed.

Johnny is a down-on-his luck singer/songwriter/producer whose shared past with Ashton James has done more harm than good in his life. When he's confronted with Hannah Lee and discovers her true identity, he has to decide if he is going to exact revenge or let bygones be bygones.

This is a delightful romance with music and family at the center. I loved the story and the relationship between Hannah and Johnny that developed throughout the course of the novel.

My major gripe with this edition was the quality of the audiobook recording. There were two narrators, and the female narrator was great; however, the male narrator was distractingly bad. His gruff voice came off as constipated and his female inflection was just horrible. Additionally, the quality of the recording sounded like the microphone effect was turned up to 100 with major reverb throughout the entire book.

My honest opinion is to read the digital book because the recording was pretty tough to stomach. Great story!

Thank you to the publisher and to NetGalley for the opportunity to exchange an honest review for the audiobook!

I love how Hannah tries so hard every day to make good decisions, how she owns her mistakes and choices she’s made in the past, how she stands up for what she believes in.

Perfect capture of genuine characters

All you can do is all you can do and Heidi Hutchinson knocked it out if the park. Key Change is definitely one of the best books I've ever read with real characters with real problems that don't magically disappear because they are in love. There is work and effort and time and so many genuine moments. It's difficult to put into words how well this book was executed but it touched my soul. It was simultaneously endearing, funny, and gut-wrenching. I devoured it and hope for more from her like this in the future.

MIND BLOWN!!!! I have just a few questions. How can I give this story more stars? How can I scream louder "please read this?" How can I talk the author into making this a series? After all Shawn is going to make it big in the future and will be needing Quinn's security team.

Key Change is a lesson in love. Key Change is a lesson in second chances. Key change is a lesson in making positive changes for a better future. Key Change is a lesson of success. Ket Change is a lesson in forgiveness and trust. Most of all, Key change is a love story packed with drama.

Ashton James was the ultimate bad girl of pop rock. Her antics graced tabloids and entertainment television. Then she disappeared. The she found family. No one, but Quinn's team, knows where she is as she hides in plain sight in Chicago. Then she is confronted with her past, a past she didn't remember.

Johnny Torres was a rising star in the music industry. Time with a pop star ruined everything. Johnny is back in Chicago making music for others in a recording studio and taking care of his little brother, a brother who figures out where Ashton James is hiding.

The drama packed into this story is intense. As if all the romantic drama wasn't enough; the author brought in high school drama, close family drama, musician drama and pasts that were mind blowing. The author made me cry. I don't remember her ever making me cry before.

I have never hid that I adore Heidi's books. I have a shelf of signed books to prove it. To me this is her best story. I will still be thinking about it next week, next month.

I will remember the lessons in love. "You make it possible not to love you." Let's swoon together. "Sometimes we find someone. Or the find us. And there is rescuing on both ends." My heart is beating so fast right now.

Most of all I will remember life's greatest lesson. "All I can do is all I can do." All I can do is ask you t read Key Change. All I can do is hope that you enjoy it as much as I did. All I can do is wait patiently for Heidi Hutchinson's next story to burst free from her head.

09/17/22 after reading Lost Track, Key Change called to me for a reread. How could I say no? I couldn't.. Now I am off to read Lost Track again.

This book wasn't for me. I was looking for a light fluffy romance and this was to heavy. Also, I am not interested in the music industry so at times I wanted to skip ahaead.
