DONE FINALLY!! Thank god. Now I can procrastinate my way through another classic that I will only pick up once a week for months on end. PHEW!! Loved the writing style. Satirical pieces and unreliable narrators will always have my eye. I’ll look into more from Nabokov after this! This was such a difficult book to bring in public. The questions and concerns were part of the reason it took months to finish.

i need to start this off by saying that nabokov is insanely talented and i wish i had just a sliver of his skill.

now, of course, lolita is a very controversial book, reasonably so.
i personally found myself immersed in the story and hooked to the characters. there is no denying that this book is disgusting and gross and disturbing. but if nabokov manages to make me feel these emotions, that means that his writing is impeccable. naturally, you have to look at his work critically and in doing so, i myself found lolita to be even more impressive.
i can say that i’ve been inside the mind of a pedophile and i would dare say that that has contributed to my broad life experience and feeling of sympathy and understanding of the world as a whole.
if i were to stand face to face with humbert humbert though, i would not hesitate a second to knock his guts out.

the reason i gave lolita four and not five stars is solely because i feel that towards the end, the book lost a bit of its pace, and with it, me. i found myself skimming along passages ever so often because i just wasn’t as attached to the story as much as i was in the first half.
still a great book, i would recommend it to absolutely nobody.

The book was complicated to me you know, I read it when I was 14 during exam period so I wasn't taking the time to take it in, but at the time I found ilthe writing dense, and complicating and I had to skim through the excess he said and the MC was obviously snobberish a little. I'll re read it again to understand but for now it's a 3.5

One of those books that someone's opinion of it REALLY tells you if they're worthy of talking to in any meaningful way, and is one of the most profoundly misunderstood texts perhaps of all time (I first read this as a teenager, and a second reread as an adult only confirms this). Anyone who thinks this is a romance has terrible reading comprehension. That said, the book makes me nauseous to read and I love it.
