I just read this for the 2nd time and enjoyed it so much more! I love how 'real' this story is. There's romance, conflict, determination and a stubborn main character who doesn't quit.

I thought I'd give this one a try since it's in the same "Proper Romance" series as [b:Edenbrooke|12820360|Edenbrooke|Julianne Donaldson|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1371398291s/12820360.jpg|17969941] and [b:Blackmoore|15795628|Blackmoore|Julianne Donaldson|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1366846456s/15795628.jpg|21517875], published by Shadow Mountain -- and besides, I rather like frontier-era stories. I did enjoy this one, but probably would have liked it more if there had been more resolution to the story. Does Katie regret her decision regarding her father and Ireland? What happens to Joseph? I guess I need to read the sequel to find out ... we'll see if I feel invested enough in the story to actually get around to it.

Gag. Ultra cheesy, not very well written, disappointing. I kept reading it just to find out what happened, only to be upset at the discovery that it doesn't finish the story. I am not wasting my time reading the next book.

I liked this a lot better than I thought I would! I've read many books by this author and they are usually regency romances, so I liked that this was different. I would have given this five stars but there were times that the main character's daddy issues bugged me. She needs a good therapist! All joking aside, it's a great book, I'd recommend it to others, and I plan to read the sequel.

I didn't go into expecting too much, as my previous attempt at a Sarah M. Eden book did not end up with me liking it enough to continue. I think the fact that it wasn't Regency is actually what kept me interested. I liked that although technically a romance, there was more to the story than the romance--more conflict than what a man thought of the heroine. For the genre, it was entertaining, engaging, not too flowery--though a I really wanted to get poor Katie into some therapy for her daddy & guilt issues. I read a friend's review that the ending was pretty abrupt. I have to agree, although it is not a stand-alone book, it was still left at a cliff-hanger, though not necessarily in a good way. I'm currently reading the sequel, which doesn't waste any time picking up where this one leaves off.

I really liked the look into Irish culture. I found myself googling some of the songs, Gaelic pronunciations, and recipes for Irish soda bread.

3.5 stars. And it certainly had nothing to do with the "engaging storyline".
Honestly, nothing really happens in this book. It has a significant amount of pages as well.
The main reason I finished the book and gave it this many stars despite the lack of things happening was the characters and their development.
I loved the heroine; she was strong, independent, but still had a softer, more nurturing side.
The other characters were very easy to love.
There was also a love triangle- mixed feelings about that....

An actual romantic triangle (I don't know that it's over yet) and community difficulties that I haven't seen before. I am curious to see how those shake out.
